Fitting Crash Protectors onto a Factory

After 14 years comfort on a VFR, I've treated myself to a shiny new Factory. I'd asked the garage I bought from to fit R&G crash protectors, but they came back saying they couldn't drill through the carbon fibre panels so couldn't be done.

Any suggestions on how to fit crash protectors onto a factory?

It can be done. You have to cut a rectangular shape out of the carbon, using the template that comes with the protectors.

It will take some nerve to cut brand new carbon panels though.

I know because I did it.

You can cut a round hole with no bother in C/F.
Either use the correct size holesaw or drill a hole and enlarge it with a Dremel.
I used the latter when I fitted bungs to my Mille R's carbon side panels.

You must be referring to the upper body fairing protectors.

The lower body R&G protectors are okay to go on. the exhaust cap protectors too.

It's just the upper fairing. I'm told that the carbon fibre may splinter when drilled, so most companies won't touch it. Maybe the DIY enthusiasts here can tell otherwise...?

I didnt want to cut my carbon so i bought a cheap plastic set of ebay and cut them instead!
Then if the bike does go back i can put it back to standard.

Easy to do

i fitted mine. Take off fairings fit template supplied pilot drill small holes round the mark on the template once you have both fairings marked carry on cutting it out with a dremmel with a cutting disc fitted, take it slowly once done offer fairings up to bike and trim the holes untill you get a good fit. thats all thats to it.
