First time RSV buyer

Hi all

Firstly what an awesome forum and the advice/input from you guys is topnotch.

Ok, I have been looking at getting a RSV1000 Mille i have spotted and would just like to know if you gents could point me in the right direction as to what are possible signs of a 'bag of *****' bike.

Are there any commmon faults/issues with the 2001 model i should be looking for on inspection.

What type of questions should i be asking the seller?

When test riding the bike (my first time on a Vtwin) what should i feel/listen for inparticular?


Also could you provide me with your opinion on reliability/running cost of an RSV? I would like to start and ride in europe next year (Italy is on the books) and dont really know how the RSV would stand up to touring.

The Bike itself

RVS1000 Mille 2001 model in blue with 13500 miles. the guy selling wants a smaller bike so is willing to exchange with my current bike (CBR600F 2003 model 12500 miles) and give me some cash inhand. Selling price is £2500. he ensures me that it has never been dropped and is in pristine condition (other than audio on the alarm has stopped sounding but the immob still works fine).

I can pop round any point from now till Monday mate as i work a silly shift pattern and on days off atm and i agree with you, a practical demo of what to look for would be sooo much more useful as seen as i dont really have a clue about the RSV's.

Hopefully going to be looking and test riding this afternoon. Maybe if you live close enough and have the time you could come check out the bike with me, its also in S.Kirkby

Just trying to sort out a deal payment wise on the bike now. wil soon be learning the VTwin way and hopefully having plenty of ride outs/meets with you lot.

HPI came back all good. Got a battery on the bike, kicked right up on first turn over no problem. No nasty noises and i took it for a little spin in the industrial estate but it started to hail stone and they felt like bullets on bare hands @ 80mph so took it back in just before it threw it down. gonna have a good hrs run out on it when i find a decent day.

The guy who owns it will be home may 1st so i can sort a deal out with him then. so all in all things are looking good :doug

Front suspension felt a little soft but i dont know if it was the settings or me just not being used to a thou bike.
