Hi all

Firstly what an awesome forum and the advice/input from you guys is topnotch.

Ok, I have been looking at getting a RSV1000 Mille i have spotted and would just like to know if you gents could point me in the right direction as to what are possible signs of a 'bag of *****' bike.

Are there any commmon faults/issues with the 2001 model i should be looking for on inspection.

What type of questions should i be asking the seller?

When test riding the bike (my first time on a Vtwin) what should i feel/listen for inparticular?

Also could you provide me with your opinion on reliability/running cost of an RSV? I would like to start and ride in europe next year (Italy is on the books) and dont really know how the RSV would stand up to touring.

The Bike itself

RVS1000 Mille 2001 model in blue with 13500 miles. the guy selling wants a smaller bike so is willing to exchange with my current bike (CBR600F 2003 model 12500 miles) and give me some cash inhand. Selling price is £2500. he ensures me that it has never been dropped and is in pristine condition (other than audio on the alarm has stopped sounding but the immob still works fine).

Thanks all

Hi Spydz, Ponte lad eh :thumbup where abouts you live mate, you can pop round to mine and have a look it would be quicker for me to show you that it would for me to type answers to some of your questions lol.

You followed same path as me, from CBR600FY, you will not be disappointed. These bikes are fookin ace, hope you have strong eardrums and understanding neighbours when you fire it up (when you get it) lol.

First test ride....take it easy with the throttle especially on the corners/junctions etc these bikes want to fly :devious and watch out for the engine braking coming up to roundabouts you dont need to brake like you do on the cbr.

Lots of guys on here with tons of experience that will give you all the right info you need, I've only had mine since late October07 and still learning myself.

Oh, and welcome to the zone :thumbup

thanks man :)

I live in South Kirkby :) so 5 miles to Ponte i should say :)

I can pop round any point from now till Monday mate as i work a silly shift pattern and on days off atm and i agree with you, a practical demo of what to look for would be sooo much more useful as seen as i dont really have a clue about the RSV's.

Hopefully going to be looking and test riding this afternoon. Maybe if you live close enough and have the time you could come check out the bike with me, its also in S.Kirkby :)

LOL i already got a warning to watch my nads with the engine breaking

let me know if you have some time to spare and i will drive over and PM you my details.

Thanks Sprocker

welcome fella you'll love the v twins had them for the last eigth years that says it all for me

welcome indeed. I asked the same questions and had simmilar doubts/concerns/hesitatoins over an rsv,, had mine for 2 months now and love it,, many of the guys and indeed galls will tell you that it does take a while to gell with it but once you do you`ll be converted for life.
I`m 50-60% there and every ride out I`m learning more and more. I think my riding has improved because Ive had to learn to transfer my weight in a different way (smoother and slower) and my throttle controll has changed dramatically. I had to learn the feed the power in instead of cracking the power in full on.
Can`t wait for warmer weather and cleaner roads to find out just what how capable the bike is and how much more I have to learn.:eatcorn

Get it bought:pirate

welcome bud, I am a vtwin virgin aswell, so these guys can break us in together. Awsome bike that even my mate with his 06 busa is jelious off.

Thats a tidy looking bike in your garage Paynts :inlove but what are those three dark holes/spots on your tail end just above the cowl release key :confused

They are just sticky pads to stop pillion boots rubbing the paint work. The only thing i want to change on the bike is the wheel tape as its not the right colour.

Welcome from sunny somerset:thumbup Wot colour bike you buying? If its one of the black ones then hold on tight. (they are slightly faster than the other colours).:devious

HPI came back all good. Got a battery on the bike, kicked right up on first turn over no problem. No nasty noises and i took it for a little spin in the industrial estate but it started to hail stone and they felt like bullets on bare hands @ 80mph :( so took it back in just before it threw it down. gonna have a good hrs run out on it when i find a decent day.

The guy who owns it will be home may 1st so i can sort a deal out with him then. so all in all things are looking good :doug

Front suspension felt a little soft but i dont know if it was the settings or me just not being used to a thou bike.
