Hi folks, newbie here.
Going taking a test ride on an rsvr tomorrow but wanted to get a few opinions first from the people that know, rather than from a salesman looking to hit his targets.
This will be my first litre bike. I'm 39 and spent a year (and about 16k miles) on a yamaha r125 before getting my big boy licence 12 months ago. For the last year I've been riding a VFR800FI and have covered another 15k, using it in all weathers on my 30 mile commute to work.
Decided that I need to give the sports bike a go now, before my back and reflexes get too old and I end up buying an adventure bike (I will have a multistrada one day!)
I will be using it for commuting unless the weather is appalling (keeping the viffer for that - plus i wouldnt fancy puting the missus on the back of a supersport) but I have over 20 miles of moorland national speed limit roads before heading into a city centre for the last few miles, so its not all stop start mess.
My mate reckons it's a stupid idea, but you guys ride these bikes and are better placed to give advice. I'm handy with the spanners so will keep well on top of the maintenance. I have a classic sports car as well, so the Italian temperament doesn't put me off!
Have been looking at fireblades and R1s (just don't like the look of suzuki) but the rsv is just SO much bike for the money (2004 factory) and it obviously has looks to die for. This seems a more obvious choice due to the lower power too, although I suspect the torque from it being a twin will more than make up for that!
I'm not a mentalist or think I'm Valentino. Firm believer that it's only gonna go as fast as I tell it to and certainly don't feel inclined to twist the throttle all the way around everthere I go. Saying that, I do want something that will encourage me to ride more effectively and bring my skills along.
Opinions please. Tell me I'm stupid, or its the best move I could make. Concerns or questions. Things to look out for when I'm buying. Whatever you can that may help me with my decision.
Thanks!
