woking, surrey
With the great weather over the weekend, i have spent alot of time riding my Tuono, ('06 10,000 miles bought two weeks ago), and adjusting to the feel of a V- twin after years on multis'. Initially very impressed with power:eek and amazing handling. After today, a few things have come to my attention. Firstly discovered my rear brake is u/s so i'll need to bleed it. Also gets very hot in traffic and will stall from idle now and again but i'm sure the above are maybe 'normal'.
However the engine is quite noisy mechanically with clattering and whining....is this ok ? No major vibes but also the engine seems to be reluctent to rev cleanly above 7000 rpm. Bike was serviced according to service book at 9400 (now 10300) but not sure what was done.
Bit long winded i know, and the Tuono is so different to anything i've had before, but i don't want to confuse 'normal' running with some potentially mechanical problem. All comments appreciated.
Thanks.

Emsee , Dont think theres many on here with a working back brake mate , there are a few ideas on here about curing the problem if you do a quick search , its just one of a few quirks with owning an italian beestie .
Make sure the bike is on map 2 if your running open pipes , on map 1 it can feel a bit flat above 7000 rpm , you will have to get it plugged into a little gizmo at your local aprillia dealer to check this !
V twins always sound a bit noisier compared to inline 4s !
Some one will come along in a bit tell you something different im sure but dont listen to them , bunch of flaming nutters on here , now wheres my medication .....

No back brake ... check!

Hot in traffic ... check!

Noisy and whiny ... that sound more like Mrs Welly than a T?

If the bike is on map 2, and i've replaced Carbon Can pipes with standard (i know....i've alot to learn !) would that make a differance ?

Shotgun's about right. Map 2 makes all the difference, as does a set of after market cans - runs smoother.

Firstly...congrats grin factor on your 1000th post ! Secondly thanks for the quick response to my questions.

noisy an whiney...
...ye want tae try ownin a Ducati...soonds like a loon shakin a tin can fu o auld bolts while stranglin a cat...Tuonos poetry next tae that!

Yer bike soonds "normal" tae me

I wouldn't say stalling in traffic or not running cleanly over 7k sounds normal to me. Mine doesn't do that. Has a few odd noises when accelerating like a little chatter about 3.5k but it's always had it and runs perfectly normally. It did kinda make a metallicy funny noise the other day but I put that down to me trying to accelerate off in 5th from about 35 to 40 at 2k revs. Hasn't happened before. All bikes I've had have had their quirks this one less than most.

aye Bay yer right...ah kindo missed the bit aboot 7k...

Emsee min...yer Ts buggered!

Jist a thought, but yer rev limiters nae set tae kick in aboot 7k ish is it? stupid obvious thing tae say ah know but hey anythings possible..

Cheers guys. Not the start to Tuono ownership i'd hoped for, but i agree that a trip to the work shop is called for. B-((

Robbo,

Has he got equipment to check what mapping is done on my bike, or I still need to go to aprilia dealer? I'm a bit concerned about my fuel consumption and smell of fuel, will mapping affect this at all?
