Finally figured out why my insurance is so high...

...quotes of £900 odd if I keep the RSVR garaged, or £2200 odd if I want to go to the next cheapest insurer...

It's because, when I started [adult] college, early last year, I went back to the job I had as a kid, riding little 50cc neep neep scoot-ays. The job's okay, not too boring, and leaves me plenty of free time to crack on with studying.

Unfortunately, bike insurers hate delivery scooter riders. Don't know why, I'd have thought being out on the road all night several times a week would count for experience, but apparently that's not a plus. I got a quote for insurance on an '03 Mille, as a scootay rider, £2296 TPO.

Got a quote on the same bike with the same details, this time as a IT manager (network administrator) type dude...

The quote came back £440 odd quid, TPO, or £600 TPFT. :confused:confused

Fortunately for me, Networking is the field that I'm now qualified in, so if I can find a job in that, then I should be able to take advantage of the sensible quote at last.
Now, to find a bike... :thumbup

Im a network engineer/infrastructure analyst and have found a difference if you put IT in any insurance quote it will come out higher than if you put Infrastructure Analyst....

For the first time ever I'm glad to be old:doug
I can see why so many vehicles on the road are un-insured if people are having to pay up to £2500 a year.

Yeah. Really excited now though, now that realistic and sensible insurance prices are almost within reach. Now I'm trying not to have fits of giggles daydreaming about the first time I open the RSV up.
She's bound to be a tad more powerful than the 250 :D.

Im 26 just got my 05 plate factory insured for 290 quid and they gave me extra 3 months so i got it for 290 for 15 months

I'm 42 and retired from the forces (though still on call up for another 8yrs).
I make my pocket money as a pro musician and music teacher.
I can't put retired, musician or teacher on my insurance a they all hike the premiums massively!
Luckily my main job is 'househusband' nice and cheap :thumbup

My main profession is teaching chemical engineering to Muslim asylum seekers, but insurance company's won't give me a quote, so put down I'm an Engineer, £124 last year. Don't know what it'll be this next year after my off.

Awww mannn.... I'm so jealous that you've got that excitement building up. I seem to have lost my mojo with the bikes but im sure it'll come back next year. Enjoy mate.

Don't be jealous dude, the RSV has twice the BHP, more than twice the torque, and four times the engine capacity :p (of my RS), so my giggly excitedness is sort of tempered with a slight twinge of "I'm going to die!"
Not that I worry that much cos I can't think of any way I'd rather go!
But yeah, I'll try and keep it between the hedges, next summer's going to be awesome :D.

Squid which part of yorkshire you from???

I wouldnt worry about the power you will only ride as fast as you feel comfortable with just dont be tempted to push to much if your out with mates.

If the bike you get isnt inspiring much confidence spend some time setting up the suspension, makes a whole heap of difference

There's a brilliant joke in there somewhere, just waiting to burst out...:)

I noticed that too, and I'm ashamed that I didn't take the opportunity to make it...

I'm right at the other end of Yorkshire matey, in Sheffield. Within riding distance of Cadwell and Matlock Bath :).

I'm looking forward to being scared tbh dude, I've got so used to the RS that we kinda have an easy relationship with each other, she's predictable (in a good way), but I miss jumping on a bike, daring it to scare me, and later thinking "Jeez, better not feck around with this thing!" :D
Plus the RSV/Mille (haven't decided which one to get) sounds so incredibly awesome :D.

Ok, so I have a strange sense of humour. :devious: Seriously though. Insurance is a game these days, in years gone by you'd give your age, CC then you'd get a quote, now? Got a mate who's unemployede, can't get a sensible quote, so now he's down as an house husband. Can you blame him.

I don't see why being a network engineer should mean more favourable quotes than being a scootay rider.
My current job revolves around being able to ride safely, consistently, night after night.

According to my insurance in my car i only do 6000miles a year and my bike is still insured to my old house cos mce the theiving twats wanted to charge me an extra 60quid for moving to a lower risk area (car insurance went down 75quid) and they would have to issue new documents.

Do any of guys fess up about any mods???

When I got knocked off, my Akro's/pazzo's/number plate mysteriously changed.

I declared all mine (carbon fibre panels, air filter, replacement exhaust +<5bhp etc.
Didn't affect the premium at all.

I do now. Had an off this year, repair place deemed my bike a write off and then Axa the insurance company were not going to pay up because I had a power commander fitted. The repair place had informed them of it :jack
