faulty crotch or is it clutch??

Hi boys and girls,
I seem to have a fault with my crotch.......must remember to wear a box!!
I seem to have a fault with my clutch......when bike is cold there is the correct amount of free play in the clutch lever.......as the bike gets hotter and I ride faster the free play disappears in the clutch lever......yesterday i gave it such a caning up and down the steep hills wot we have over here that the lever went absolutely rock-ard and the clutch started slipping.....seems that something is swelling up (apart from my crotch).......now i'd have thought that as the fluid heats up it would get thinner so i doubt that is the problem....
I can adjust the push rod in the lever that acts on the piston, but if I do it enough to remove the hot running problem then the clutch is absolutely useless at cold temperatures and does not work enough to get the bike out of gear at a standstill :dunno
has anybody had the same or got any ideas? :confused

Thanks in advance - stinky

Sounds like you had the clutch pushrod adjusted to partially close one of the passage ways in the M/C.

Then as any air in the fluid expands (there will always tiny amounts) the fluid it displaces can't get back to the resevoir so it pushes the piston in the slave out instead.
The correct pushrod adjustement is 10mm of lever play at the lever tip assuming you don't have lots of air in the system.

Have you got a blocked or incorrectly routed crankcase vent ? if so it can expand the slipper diaphram and slip the clutch

Hi Spoonz....;

It was a load of hot air!!!!:biggrin

Like a total dickwit when I changed the clutch fluid and bled it through a couple of weeks ago I did it on the sidestand.........where's the f'in bleed nipple? On the side that is lowest when the priller is on the sidestand!!:jack

thanks for your input, cheers, stinky :thumbup
