This is a ghost code mate. Anything not recognised by the ECU in the standard list of codes (which are all linked with the EFI system) will give something starting with P. Generally caused by a dodgy connection somewhere. First things first:

1) Check connectors under the seat (there's a white one under the rear cowl that may be corroded)
2) Remove right hand fairing (if you were sitting on the bike). Near the front you will see your regulator/rectifier with three yellow wires going into abrown plug. Check this.
3) Remove carbon cover from left hand side and you will see a bundle of wires and connectors. Check these for corrosion.

... or do you have any of these symptoms?

1) immobiliser light flashing every second
2) Bike starting intermittently
3) Engine continue to run when key removed?

hi, i cleaned all connections and she starts but revs about 3-4000 revs and wont turn off by key, fault codes p14 and p99 show on dash. fault seems on every time i start it up now. any ideas lads cheers billy

when i was looking for faults i lifted my tank and unplugged one at a time all the connectors and sprayed them heavily with contact cleaner which i got from maplins . if i were you bud i would take both sides off and lift the tank and seats and do any connector you come across wont take long . somebody on here may know of a reason not to do wat i have described for technical reasons but i dont know of any :thumbup

It's your immobiliser ECU mate. You need to order a new one. This is exactly what happened to mine.

cheers bud, i will try and get one, the immobiliser must have bypassed itself because i can start it without the key and by shortin across the solinoid, but the revs stay too high, is it poss to remove the immobiliser altogether?

It seems to be a comon fault with 04's, that and the dash resetting to 0 miles! There proably is a way to bypass it, but it won't be posted anywhere for security purposes. It might be worth speaking to your local dealer. They can do a full diagnostic too to make sure 100% that it is the ECU, but all the symptoms match mine. Good luck and keep us posted.

cheers pjefferi, av been workin on it this morn and have got it sorted, ya right it was the immobiliser ecu, i stripped it apart and there was corrosion on printed circuit and between some of the wires, moisture must have sneaked in, the black sealant seemed pourus near the wires, a cleaned the circuit board and re sealed it with rtv silicon sealant, and touch wood it fixed it straight away, a will take it for a run tomorrow when the sealer has set and hopffully a will save 3 weeks wait and 200 quid.A took pics but cant seem to upload them, maybe cause am on a mac?, cheers bud.

Nice one - I never thought of opening it up, was it easy to do? Well done if that's got it sorted mate - several others could benefit from that money saving tip :thumbup

it was bit difficult to cut open the box with a stanley blade so not to damage it, once open i heated it up with hair dryer to soften the black sealer, but where the corrosion was it came away quite easy, i had to jiggle the wires for it to turn over this morning, so it looks like i will give it another clean and add a bit if solder to the damaged areas, if its not 100% fixed i will buy a new one for piece of mind.

Hi Billy was wondering how she's running. If she's good, it might be worth posting up a how to post. So many people have this same problem.

hi, i soldered connections and re sealed into original blackbox, then refitted it. i have been using her everyday and have had no probs, am gona ride up to bike show at edinburgh on sunday, which should be a good test as it will most likely be raining, could do a how to but my IT skills aren't good, plus you have to take care removing it from box and removing black sealer so not to damage components on printed circuit. cheers billy
