Fast Idle. Any Ideas???

Not far from you!
Could someone please shed some light on why my bike's Idle is to high?

It used to run at the correct idle of 1250rpm but the last 6-7 start ups its increased.

On start up it goes up to approx 2000rpm (which its always done), after a few seconds down to 1500-1700rpm then wont go down anymore even after a long ride out.
Its obviously drinking even more fuel now and the engines getting hot fast at these revs.

Lost that engine braking and feels free rolling when shutting off throttle.

Ive read that the idle speed is controlled by the temp of the engine, is it possible the engine temp sensor is on its way out?

Thanks in advance :thumbup

Check for any air leaks on the inlet manifold. Air entering will cause the engine to run lean and hot and will also cause high and unstable tickover. Do the revs take longer to come down after revving? This is also a symptom of an air leak. one way to check is to lift the tank, keep it running and spray some WD40 or similar around the intake manifold. This will temporarily stop the air leak and the tickover may get lower or change in pitch.

Worth a try !

Mark,

Any fault codes being displayed or lights on the dash etc...?

If not the disconnect your battery for a couple of hours and see if it resets itself and the idle returns to normal.

If this doesn't work you're gonna need a dealer or someone with access to Axone to interrogate the electronics and see what amiss.

Thanks for your response chaps.

Mr Damage, cheers for the tip i will give that a go at the weekend, hopefully ill get to the bottom of this soon.
Yes it takes longer for the rev's to decrease on shut off resulting in a free rolling bike with F all engine braking.
Rode it today and the fans are on and off quite regular around town, guess its becuase the engines doing more work.

Alan. Theres no fault codes mate, Griff serviced it and balanced the throttle bodies at the beginning of April it was fine then, ive clocked about 1500 miles since i recon.
Might give Griff a ring if all else fails and see what he says, failing that its a trip to my local dealer

While we are on the subject of problems, this evening i cleaned the bike on my abba stand when putting it back on the side stand after i noticed water coming from the filler cap spilling down the tank. I opened it and its completely full of water some of which went in the tank FFS
Im guessing my overflow pipe is blocked?

Only for my Clocks to reset again?? :dowhat

I love this bike but its causing me more **** than any other bike ive owned LOL

has it a alarm? because that year model had problems with the wiring causing that same fault :thumbup

Yes mate its got a Meta, was installed when new.

Can this problem just crop up then if it is the wiring?

yes they were wired incorrectly from the factory millersvr69 had exactly the same issue took it to southern cross and they rewired it maybe ring them and speak to don or andy:thumbup

Thanks, i will have a butchers myself at the weekend if that fails ill make the call :thumbup

Cheers

Those blocked breather tubes are a frigging nightmare, same **** happened to me the other day.

Washed the road kill off the bike and then took it round to the garage to refuel, opened up the cap only for **** loads of water to run in to the open tank.

Had the lower breather hole blocked solid with what looked like decomposing leaves.

Cleaned them both out now so should be good for a while, keep an eye on this!

Thank goodness im not the only one.

Best way to clean it out?

Any more thoughts on the idle issue alan?

Many thanks in advance.
