Fans not cutting in ffs

Went for a rideout today and the fecking fans didnt cut in:rant went up to 101 degrees and so i stopped at the side of the raoad to cool down.

Does not overheat when running.


I had the front fairing off to paint the front is there a connector or something that i forgot to connect or is it something else.

I have checked the fuses.

The temperature switch may have failed or it is not making a good connexion. Check the temperature relay as well. What happened to me is that the temp switch connector had oxidated and wasn't making a good connexion. Clean it and put some WD-40. All this assuming you connected everything correctly. lol

As you sit on the bike, is on the left hand side. You can see it underneath the tank without having to remove the side pannel. Rather close to the frame. Have a look in the manual, there are pics.

Right ive had the switch connectors off and they seem ok, so I shorted the 2 together and turned on to see if the fans worked they didnt all i got is a clicking from the fan relay.

Whats the next step?

If you have a spare battery, connect each fan directly to it. If they don't work at all, then you know where the problem is. If they do, the problem could be on the cable between the temp switch and the fans cables.

ill take the front fairing off tommorow and have a look it must be a switch dislodges or something

if the relay is clicking find the relay and check for battery voltage at one term and a switch live at the other and a earth the one remaining is the feed to the fans stick 12v down that one to check the fans
if you arent good at electrickery find some one who is dont want any bangs

Right lads

If you short the fan switch and the fans dont come on then track back to the relay.......All the relays on the left hand side are rated at 12v 20 amp so i simply changed the relays over to see if it was bolloxed.........and lo and behold it was!! so Ive ordered a new one

ps What relay do i need change over or make and break????

My biggest problem with the RSV is fans. I almost carry a spare as they always go wrong. Iv had 3 RSVs & easily twice as many fans.

Can you spin them easily? (stick a pen or use your key to whizz them round - should be easy peasy). If not they have seized. As there are 2 of them, 1 could have packed up years ago & the system would be fine, till the other went.

When they do go the fuse normally blows. The bike will happily run on one.
