exhaust value cable removal

Hi,

I searched and was able to find some recommendations on exhaust valve cable removal that might improve the sound and performance on a tuono but am not sure of that applies for 1000 r model because most of what I saw was only for v4. Is this a common thing that you guys do if you are stuck with stock cans?

I get Service light on when I disconnect the cable, is there a way to reset it?

Yep,its for the V4 Tuono only,.......the twins are old tech and dont have the flapper exhaust valve.

What did you find on it Fred?

the only way is to reprogramme the ECU with the genuine APrilia race map that i know of so far....
this allows you to disconnect completely with the service light appearing!

sorry i couldnt be any more help than that dude!

Quite a few people have disconnected the cables from the servo end, not the electrical connector. The valve will then stay in a spring loaded open position. If you need a bit more get a race remap which will reprogram your ecu to the same spec as the Aprilia race ecu at a more resonable price.

I disconnected the cables completely, whilst noting the adjustments and leaving the servo connected. The service light has never come on at any time. Happy days!

Yes it improves it a bit, when the RACE ECU is fitted it goes through the cleaning motion as standard but then does not use it after. The RACE ECU has better/richer fuelling maps to cater for the better flowing exhaust. Conversions are available so you don`t have to physically buy the box.

Tell me more bt. There seems to be some confusion between fitting a new / exchange ecu and buying a power commander (pc). Does the new / exchange ecu do everything a pc does and a lot more, such as ignition tuning etc. In other words does it do everything you need over and above a pc which just allows the fuelling only to be changed with a custom remap. If so , it begs the question - why bother using a pc at all if the ecu does it all? :thumbup

the new ECU will be programmed with a Generic race map that will be closer (hopefully) to the state of tune that your bike requires, than the stock ECU (homologated by the EU)
the situation is that your bike is unique, the engine is subject to build quality and machining tolerence diffrence etc so it has its own personality, the map needed to run your bike exactly may not be the one programmed in the eCu exactly, but fitting a fuelling module like a PC5 or a Bazzaz will get it spot on!

hope this makes sense?

Thanks for the fb.

Therefore, you're saying that to get the best from the bike you need the pc and ecu together - fitting one or the other independently will only result in a half-way ideal mapping?

thats just about it my friend!
the only way to get the bike spot on is to be able to adjust ignition timing and fuelling!

dont get me wrong the bike will run better with either one contected up but to get it perfect......

hope this helps

same to you my friend!
i hope all goes well and tell how it all works out!

cheers
