Exhaust Link Pipe & Spring

Help!

Just been out for a spin and noticed my exhaust sounded a bit chuffy when winding the power on. Anyhow, got back and found that the link pipe spring was missing due to the small anchor point on the link pipe breaking away.

I can weld a new anchor point on the link pipe but my local Aprilia dealer has said that the spring may take a week to arrive.

Don't suppose anyone has one laying around in their garage/shed that they care to donate to a worthy cause?

Cool, just buzzing my mate to see if I can use his welder to fix the broken anchor point.

OK, can't get hold of my mate with the welder.

Anyone live in Kent that has or will let me use their MIG or Oxy Acetylene welding kit?

I have the exhaust off and I reckon it's a 30 second job to tag the bracket back on, please help I want to do the Mayday run on Monday.

Only if they spot it mate and if it's chuffing away like mine was then I think it's a safe bet that it'll fail.

Be careful too, my link pipe had dropped down an inch or so at the rear and was resting on my belly pan fairing, I now have some nice melted edges on my belly pan fairing. :rant

mine fits ok and snug, looks like im fooked then as both top srpings are missing and in plain view.

ebay here i come, must have some springs on the there :)

Couldn't you just drill and tap the 2 pipes together as a temp solution to the problem :dunno I drilled and taped a couple of mine to take out some of the play in it.:thumbup

Al, how long are athe srpings, seems to be a lot on ebay. gonna buy a couple of sets so can send some to you if your still after one or two.

Smiffy has sorted me out with a spring and I'm off to my mates in Hildenborough tomorrow morning to get the bracket welded back on.

Should be all ready to roll on Monday, would be gutted to miss the Mayday run.

I did think about drilling and pegging the two parts together but then with all the vibrations from the engine I thought it may end up shearing the damn header pipe off.

Don't weld it with oxy/ acc, you'll distort it tae f@ck.

Nah, gonna use his MIG welder to tack on a small piece of bracket I've made up to replace the broken section of the bracket.

Alan, I see you have added a link for a 90mm spring......I thought they were all the same...I have just measured the spring I have and its 60mm....

OK, just measured the springs and they are 90mm from anchor point to anchor point.

The body of the spring is 60mm in length but a springs length is measured from anchor point to anchor point.

Smiffy, is that spring you have as described above?

Oh dear, looks like I'm gonna have to lock wire it in place as a temp measure.

Cheers for the offer anyhow.

This is getting confusing now too, looked on the AF1 site and they say the free length of the spring is 80mm for a 2001 RSV, well all I can say is that mine are 90mm from tip to tipand fit like a flow.

Make sure you measure up before you order guys.
