Exhaust Header Mod pipe size

Going to do the header mod to my Gen1 2000 mille rear pipe mod only.Can anybody tell me
what size pipe is the best to use and what size hole is best to drill into the exhaust if different from the pipe size.

http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv239/redratbike/cowcollector010.jpg can't remember the exact size my welder uses....drill the hole nigh on the same size as there can't be anything to upset the flow as smooth as possible
