Hi all been reading about the exhaust flap mod intake it you release the cables and open the flap..? Why do this? For noise or smoothness around town? Why have one in the first place? Many thanks all v4 novice here ...

I found it smoother at low revs it is fitted for noise emissions I think. I took the cables of the motor and not the valve end, when disconnected the flapper is spring loaded in the open position

I've disconnected and removed the cables and motor.
All that remains is the flap itself that as Dave V4 said above is open by default.

You can do this with a race ecu or and exhaust valve eliminator and get no faults on the dash, but the cheapest, easiest way is as above.

Thanks guys I'll get some miles under my belt and see how I go... LOVING the sound

I thought mine ran a little lean at low revs, but that was when I had the jerky throttle response, I might give it another try.

I removed mine and fitted a PCV with autotune.

The autotune added a lot of fuel low down and now my fuelling is smooth as silk from part throttle at low revs to full throttle, red line.

Did the exhaust flap mod, possibly a little smoother but WAY WAY to loud it did my head in with the thunder slash so connected it all back up, it was a bit of a bitch to re connect as such an awkward place l, luckily I took a photograph of the cables on the sevo end with the threads exposed pre dismantled so I knew roughly where to reset it to l, just hope it's all reconnected correctly, will try it back as it and re post my findings..

I gave it another go on the weekend and I rescind my previous comment, it seemed to run fine. I think last time I tried it was a very hot day. YMMV.

Been riding it a little while now with the flap re connected?, it's fine and not as noisy at low rpm so will stick with it like this for a while
