Exhaust can help!

I need someone who knows their stuff re model changes and specificly exhaust can differences..
I have a 52 plate mille with a scratched original can. I have purchased a new original can but on arrrival i have realised it is darker in colour / not a shiny finish as i have on mine. Also on close inspection the end of the baffle is thicker than the one fitted.
I now realsise the darker can is from a different colour scheme Mille, IE not 'Diablo black' but am worried that the slight power gain from the first to second model RSV's could have been gained from a different baffle in the exhausts?
Help would be much appreciated, because if I am going to lose any power or volume it can go back!
Simon.

Sorry m8 but why would you want to keep the original can? i'm sure a few on hear will now take the mickey as to the drawbacks of the original torpedo....

Haha. I want to keep the bike fairly original, + it is cheaper than an aftermarket, + I dont want to have to fork out for a power commander to get the best from it, then spend money on dyno time setting it up, + I dont want any more attention from the old bill than I already get..
Its good to have an answer :)

If the can is one of the last of the line first generation RSV's made up to @2004 before the revised RSV with the twin headlights came in then I'm not sure. Are you certain it is a can from a 2004 onward Mille?. Because the last run of RSV's from 2003 to 2004 that came with a single can were released with a can that was a different colour to the normal stainless steel coloured one from before, this can looks quite similar to the later 2004 cans. The can's were of a Bronze type finish and were absolutely identical to the previous exhaust cans apart from the colour. I had one on my 2000 RSV for a while and still have it in case I ever need to remove the Renegades and stick it back to standard. I never had any issues with a loss of power or the noise being different when I had it fitted. You can see the can on my bike pictured below :-

Thanks mate.
The can I have just bought is lighter than the can you have pictured hear but not pure uncoated stainless as I have fitted.. Im not sure what model it has come off of. It is identical to the one you have shown exept the finish. The can I have on the bike also has the noise regulation jargon printed below the 'aprilia racing' sign, the one I have just bought does not have this..

Hiya,

The pictures I posted are quite deceptive, colourwise. The can pictured is a light bronze colour where in fact in the pics it looks darker, almost black. I've not got any other pics to hand on this laptop of the can but it may well be the same as the one you have. Have you any pictures of it?.

I do have one from where i got it off ebay, havent got a clue how to post it on hear though lol. It has got a kind of bronze tinge to it i suppose, a thin coating over the stainless..

From trawling through rsv pics i think the tinted colour can is off the 2003 model rsv. The shiny ones seem to be on all the earlier models up untill 02.

Could be... Its the same as the one used on the 2004 tuono darkness black ive just seen. Aprilia seem to have used at least three different finishes on the same can. Ill fit it and see how it goes...

Update, ive just fitted the new can, looks grate but down on power and noise! Looking down it from the link pipe end i can clearly see a baffle whereas on the original can i took off i cannot.. Aprilia must have changed the baffles from model to model because as far as i know the can i took off hasnt been modded...

there are differences.

the 02 bikes all had the same std end can
the 03 bikes has two options with or without a cat

i don't know if the colour has anything to do with it but physicaly all 3 cans look the same.

If it's the baffle I'm thinking it is ( sort of cone shaped and perforated ) it should be removed. It's part of the derestriction process. Takes a bit of brute force and a cold chisel. There are two spot welds holding it in on either side, should be easy to spot. Use a thin, sharp cold chisel to hammer away at them and break them to remove it. I also used a large strong screwdriver that I wedged in there wiggling it back and forth and eventually it popped out.

oooh well done dint know that

Ecosse, is this what you are describing?
The first pic is of the new can, the second is of my original can...with no lower baffle visible.

Lower baffle removed... Only to find there is some form of baffle past this in the main section of the can. Again this isnt in the can i removed. I have just found out the new can was off a 05 tuono R. Anybody know if this can will be more restrictive than the 02 rsv's? The innards are definately different with the lower baffle removed...

there are 3 different standard cans for the 05 Tuono and they are listed as c or nc options i am going to assume as a catalytic converter was an option in 03 this will be an option in 05

the cans are different on the R model to the non R although i dont know what the difference is.

an exhaust with a cat will be more restrictive
