neilmac...i have an 08 model but with blue wheels, gold wheels from what i gather this is where the change point comes in....and engines letting go!!!

Gentlemen, calm down a tad, these are one or two highlighted incidents, if you look around on any forum you will find horror stories of bikes blowing this that and the other.
Most people never go on forums except to ask for advice when the beloved is ******.
Dont go and sell you T just because someone elses has gone up the swanny. Ride it like it is supposed to be ridden, change the olil and filters regularly, treat it to a bit of TLC every now and again.

good advice pinny mate, dont panic, i remember back to my 1st r1 (98) - they started throwing first gears, actually turned out to be very isolated incidence, same with my gixer thou k6 - all of a suden in the news they started breaking frames - but only turned out to be 2 or 3 out of **** loads sold.....upshot dont panic !!!!!:thumbup

Don't over react Neil, your bike will probably be fine, as was said earlier if its been run-in okay it should be good. Some people thrash the arse off a bike straight away which may cause this.
I'll keep mine and worry about it if it ***** up

The worse thing that can go wrong with a Tuono is knowing your engine and every other part of the bike is fine but it won't start cos u've a ****** starter switch and the rest of the people on the forum are going on a brilliant ride without you. Now that really must suck.

:lol - bay thats uncanny m8 - i really do know how that feels :bawling:bawling, specially the constant updates on how much fun these T owners were having while i was making a **** of myself trying to bump start an 08 v twin :banghead

:yes was up your way tonight - thought i'd grab a quick spin to genny :thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

I'll have to give u my number mate. I was looking to go out for a quick ride about 6.30ish somewhere but couldn't be arsed on my own. U could have even called in for a cuppa as wife was in cribbs shopping and little one stayed up his grandparents. Could have run you experienced eye over out half finished extension

pinny, now I wish I'd bin more kind to ma machine when running it in.

In fact I wish I hadn't even BOUGHT it.

That'll be ******* right.

Yeah I know it's an overreaction. Just went through that whole thing last year with the Buell. I bought it as they were going cheap, then started to look into them on the Buell forum. It was a nightmare, never have I seen so many problems on a new bike. Luckily for me, the Germans love Buells, so I sold it, with no loss. Traded in my GSX1400 for the T. It is the best bike I've ever had, and as I'm a chicken & v. old I will never see the limiter bothered on my bike. So, I've calmed down now, and going to go out for a run on the first dry day for a week. If I see one more smug **** on the telly going on about a friggin heat wave I will top myself. It's been torrential here for a week.

Thats the spirit Neil, I'm 54 now, and rarely see my limiter. Don't think you need to there's so much torque, I tend to use 5-8 and am happy with that. No doubt some of the young bucks will call me a fanny - who gives a ****.

I've got my limiter set at 11 but I only rarely see 10k on there when overtaking. No need otherwise. Mines got 11,000 miles on the clock but is a Gen 1. Do Gen 1's suffer these issues.

Dunno bay, but mine is on 16k and doing alright, same as you with the rev limiter, set at 11k

No mate. Late 07 built motors onwards, and as it's already been said, it is actually very rare, those that go, usually go in the first few thou. This could actually be totally unrelated. :dunno
AF1Windy blew his (the one in the video) with the throttle pinned to the stop, flat chat in top on a french autoroute, with about 1200 miles on the clock. luckily it was also only a few months old so his rebuild was both FOC and fairly swift.

Gen 1 uses the earlier version of the motor, smaller valves in the head, smaller throttle bodies. These early engines can run for huge mileages, Faceslider on AF1 has just sold his at over 90k, some Falco's have clocked over 120k. The usual niggles on the early motor is the sprag clutch, which is more related to poor starting, from crap Italian electrics and a poorly charging battery.......we know a song about that :)
