I'm not sure but I think my valves might need an adjustment and or the cam chain tensioner. I have a 2001 rsv mille with 17000 miles. Just looking for some feedback and any advice would be much appreciated since I have no idea how to perform a job like this...

Hi zbake, welcome to the forum!

Are you able to take a video?
When were the valve clearances last checked?
Unlikely to be the clearances as they should tighten with age meaning less noise.
Think the cam chain tensioner as you said is along the right lines..
Does it make the noise during idle or when you let off the throttle?

During idle it makes the noise. I'll try and put a video up later. I just bought the bike last summer so I don't know when the valves were last checked. Thanks for the response!

No worries mate, have you checked the oil level?

Video would be interesting. When did it start making the noise?

Unlikely that the chain needs replacing with that many miles.. Maybe the cam chain tensioner(s) has gone.

I'm sure more people will be along to give advice, I am fairly new to these bikes..

oil is good...I wonder if there is a how to video or some pics on adjusting the cam chain out there somewhere...

Does it go away when you pull the clutch in ?

The cam cannot be adjusted and the cam chain tensioner is automatic, however the spring in the tensioner can fail which will allow the chain to slap on guide.
