Hello
Help please!

I have a knocking noise which is moore prominent when the engine is cold.
Symptons are:
knocking noise appears to be coming rear cylinder and is nor present throught the rev range.
If you rev the engine to 4K and shut the throttle the noise is nore obviuos between 3K to 2K as the revs drop.
I have removed the rear cylinder cam cover all looks ok apart from there is what I believe to considerable (0.5mm) end flot on the balanceshaft.

have phone several dealers but no one has had aproblem with the balancer shaft.

Any one out the who can throw any light on the subject please

Bike Tuono 2007 low mileage 3.5K

Cheers

tbh, they mostly tend to be a bit rattley....when was the last time the TB's were balanced?
also...what oil are you using?

contact Griff at aprilia performance for an expert opinion

but mine makes a noise more at the base of the rear cylinder only when its cold ..i never ride the bike when the cold is flashing on the dash ..always let it get warm first

Only had the bike a couple of months. Bought with 1200 miles on the clock. There was no noise when I bought it. Did 2K touring Scotland never notice the noise until got back and went to go out. So do not know if the TB's have been balanced. I no mechanic how would this balancing cause the noise I am experiancing? and would this be needed on a low mileage bike?
I know these engines are pretty noisy as I have the yellow RSVR in the picture not heard anyhting quite like this but maybe because the Akropovic can is pretty loud.
Have heard of Griif through this site I think he is in Tamworth a fair old distnace from Surrey!
Taking the bike to InMoto an Aprillia dealer in Croydon for their opinion.

Has anyone had any dealings with InMoto are they any good sounded quite helpful on the phone.

cheers

Yes, InMoto know their stuff.

Might not be cheap, but they do know.

There's a bloke on the service desk who has an 02 Mille

Thank you all for you input.
FYI have taken the bike to InMoto they were very helpful, looked at the bike but unable to be sure where the noise is coming from and advised even if they dismantled it they may not find the reason.
I have since spoken to Griff who is without a doubt very helpful. Sending him a recording of the noise as he has had Tuono in the past with which sounds like a similar problem.

So will see how it goes from here.

Thanks again
Ron
