Engine knock, normal?

Heya.

Sounds like my 03 has developed a knock, not very loud but clearly visible over the exhaust sound when its idling.

And it only comes when its very hot (+90c on the temps)

Sounds like its coming from the front cylinder, possibly top end. If i put my ear on the crash bung its VERY loud from there.

Do these engines have a habit of eating rod or main bearings, or knocking valvetrain? Or maybe im just paranoid :roll

Mine made a simlar noise especially when hot ( think the oil was thinner then ) turned out to be the front cylinder main bearing on its way out

Wierdly it started doing it only after i changed oil brand, guess ill go back to 15w-50 and see if itll help.

Something to do for next winter if not, thank god these engines are a tad easier to work with than car engines :thumbup

Fixed with 15w-50 oil, the "new" oil was running like water even when cold and full of bublles (not because of water, because the oil is "broken")

Apparently the 15w-40 oil couldnt handle it and went too thin when hot = not enough oil pressure causing some metal to metal contact. Hope it didnt wear bearings too much.
