Bridged the side stand switch lamp no longer illuminates engine starts and runs fine but cuts out when I put it in gear checked the diode module thats fine , any sugestions:confused:exclamation

mmm I woulda thought that's all ya needed to do, try putting the switch back on and see if it works. Why do ya wanna take it off anyway???

its not bridged right, do as cowelly says take it apart again and rebridge it

as Deacs says it is not bridged right.

if i remember correctly you have to bridge the outer two wires as there are 3 in total.

Thanks for your reply guys I think I've got more serious problems with the loom just found other weird faults , its not actually on an aprilia I'm building a bit of a hybrid using a mille engine and electrics, cheers.

lamo, is the engine from an early mille - GEN I or from the later GEN II bike? if its the later bike and you're cutting bits off you may weell have probs as it uses a CAN BUS system so expects to see specific resistances returned. If its the early bike then just look for possible broken wires (you'll need a multi meter for this, not to teach granny to suck eggs you understand ;) ) or a common issue is earthing issues.

True, the GEN II (>=04?) loom incorporates a CAN bus, but only between the ECU and the dash. The dash is largely passive in that the ECU just pushes out packets to it (CAN is a broadcast protocol, so there's no acknowledgment from the dash). The exception is the model ID that the dash sends back. The rest of the wiring is 'straightforward' direct wiring between the ECU and the sensor/actuator/switch.

What is difficult to address is the fact that the ECU monitors 'background' resistance of several components to check whether they're still connected - one example of this is the fall sensor - which has a resistance of 62kOhm (i.e. not infinity) when OPEN. 'Fraid I can't help you with a list of values; you'll have to trudge through the manuals yourself. Good luck!

BTW, as you will already know if you have one, there are only two pins on the GEN II sidestand switch. A simple bridge (without in-line resistance) is sufficient to bypass this.

Engine loom and dash are form an 02 bike , I do think some of the problems might be earthing issues one of the weird faults is that when I try to crank the engine over when in gear is engine does not turn over (as it should'nt) but main beam comes on:confused:exclamation
