does any one know if it is possible to do an ecu swap to eliminate a possible fault .
so if i was to borrow an ecu fit it to my bike , the bike then assumes the identity of the bike the ecu is borrowed from , ie mileage etc .but would all the clock functions work and would the ignition system and fuel system work . in other words would the bike run ??????????????????????????????

Ask Tifa, I'm sure he had to do the same to eliminate/identify a prob wae his ecu.

Pretty sure its a straight swap mate. From memory, there have been a few ecu failures on 2006/7 bikes that have been cured with an ecu swap. You thinking yours is the root of the mode switch problems?
Make sure the borrowed ecu is from a Gen2 T,...RSVR units wont work.
You can get problems when you swap the clocks and the security code has been used.

yea , I did think after I posted .that the ignition lock may have to be changed also as the key is coded to the ecu .
and yes this is to see if the problem with mode switch is with the ecu .
could the problem be caused by connecting the pos lead first then the neg lead , did this upset the ecu ? doubtful but possible ?
the book does state neg first then pos connection .

some ting else that may be a problem with this excersise is that I don't know what the key code / access code is , if there ever has one been entered that is . as the clocks always on start up have displayed < enter user code <.

I think I need to speak to an aprilia dealer techy with more detailed experience on the problem , any suggestions . already tried Griff .

If the code has been used you would need to enter it on start up or the bike would not start, the pop up is just a reminder to set up a code

No mate, you wont need to change the lock or keys. You only need to do that if you swap the clocks. The key is coded to the clocks,...not the ecu.Dont worry about the security code either,...again,that is only an issue when swapping clocks.
The ecu should be a straight swap.

have always done pos first then neg.

You can do a straight swap and it wont affect anything , Dave B put his ecu in my old tuono to make sure it was good after his rectifier or something went pop , checked it was all ok and then stuck mine back in and bobs your uncle and fannies your aunt !!

Yep. Spot on.
Just remember to disconnect the battery before you unplug it.

It's held in with 3 bolts.
IIRC you can plug the new ecu in, to test it, and let it hang.(well..not 'hang' but you get the idea?)
Saves a bit of mincing about undoing the fastners.

thanks for the replys lads . decided this is the obvious next step .
