ECU changing for pre 00.5 bikes

Having now fitted and tried, I can confirm that ECU's from 00.5-03.5 bikes can be retro fitted to pre 00.5 models without any problems. Plug and play as they say :thumbup

Thought I would have a check inside the ECU before fitting to check the chip was correct. Made me laugh to see the bright yellow sticker simply stating EDWARDS on it. Think I was expecting it to have some garbled code ref on it for me to try to find out if it was right :dowhat

Maybe my ears, but the exhaust tone sounds slightly different from before, a little less raw maybe :dunno LEGS/Spoonz is the processing speed any different do you know? Also had to wind the tickover up a touch to settle it down. Other than that, all good :eatcorn

It hasn't been mapped for the bike Aus, just plugged straight in. Going to disconnect my pc3 and run it on the chip only, to see what the difference is with the other mods on the bike, then i'll get the pc3 back on and mapped :thumbup

Many of the earlier bikes had co2 trimmers disabled with the standard chip. later bikes and performance chips have them enabled which may make a small difference.

Also bear in mind the edwards bike had 57mm Tb's and 48 psi fuel pressure so the map in the chip would reflect that.

Thanks spoonz :thumbup

I have 54mm TB's and short alloy stacks on mine, and was led to believe from what I have read elsewhere that the pre 00.5 models ran a higher fuel pressure than the later bikes, with the exception of the Edwards :dunno Do you know anyone that has fitted one of the adjustable fuel pressure set ups that i've seen on AF1 and the likes?

Now that made me :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol mark :thumbup

Will it be chips or jacket spuds? Will it be salad or frozen peas?
Will it be mushrooms?
Fried onion rings?
You'll have to wait and see!

We hope it's chips, it's chips. We hope it's chips, it's chips. We hope it's chips, it's chips....

Strange, they were advertising steak mimicking grills :pirate Capn Birdseye

As far as i'm aware the earlier 54mm and 51 mm tb rotax uses 43 psi pressure and the 57mm tb models use 48 psi.

What seems to have happened though is the same part for the fuel press regulator is now supplied to all years although no one got told.

Someone on Af1 ordered 4 regulators for different years and they all made 48psi despite being part numbers for what should have been 43 psi models so it was taken that Aprilia think 48 psi is good across the range.
if you want 48 psi just get a later regulator and slap it on. the evo adjustable jobby will work also but don't rely on the crappy guage they supply with it.

Thanks again spoonz. You sir are a font of knowledge! :thumbup Whereabouts in Devon are you and do you do full dyno set ups? :devious So a newly ordered replacement fuel regulator from Aprilia should be ready set to 48psi?

CK, did you upgrade your fuel pressure regulator when you had the 57mm tb's and chip fitted?

Just being dense here, but why do you need to f*rt about with all this? Short summers so enjoy the sunshine, a few extra BHP means squat..

My bike is standard apart from cans and rearsets and a bit of suspender tuning. It's fast enough for me.

Caterpillar I am not involved in the motorcycle trade. My connections with bikes were all race oriented except for mates bikes.
I do a bit for local chaps if i can but that's about it. Sold my bike lift a while back. I have a gas analyser and suspension tools etc simply because i don't trust most dealers to clean my boots.

Anything i don't have facilities for (Axone) i would give to Griff.

The implication from the dealer who posted is that all regulators appear to be 48 psi these days but i don't know that from personal experience. If you get a later version from a 57mm tb model it will be. You might want to research before you take the plunge though to see if it will benefit you.

I ride pretty much everyday Mark, rain or shine :thumbup As for farting around with things, it's a bad habit of mine :laugh I fully agree a few extra HP means squat, which is why the first thing I did when I got the bike was spend time sorting the tyres/suspension out for me as i'm not the heaviest person in the world and it is where I start with all bikes as they normally are set up ridiculously hard. Whether it is classic cars or bikes, i've always been the same with tinkering about with them. To be honest, the mods i've looked into and have been doing are more about torque than they are bhp :pirate was the bike fast enough to start with? Yes, no debate there, but its about making it personal to me :)

I actually started the thread just to let anyone know with a pre 00.5 model that they can retro fit a later ECU without any problems :thumbup

Thanks again for the info spoonz, and the request was me being a little cheeky squire! :biggrin

Keep smiling, and keep it sunny side up gents :thumbup

Hi
Sorry, not having a dig. Had just finished a bottle of wine, so when I reread the post this morning it appears a bit offhand..Apologies..:thumbup

Thanks, but there is no need to apologise Mark, I didn't take it as a dig or offhand squire. Pefectly normal question in my eyes! :thumbup

No apology needed Mark.

some people tinker, some don't.

I good mate of mine has thrown every mod known to man at his Rsv and continues to do so. it makes him smile and that's what it's all about.

Me personally i just mod if i see a definate benefit without reliability issues because i tour a fair bit. Either way is cool i think.

:thumbup

Thanks for all that guys...was just thinking about fuel regulation & wether the kit on AF! was up to the job...your posts have answered everything i needed to know..cheers lads :thumbup Top class posts... & Yes, rubber down n shiny side up :biggrin men!
