Dunlop D208RR`s

Any good ?

I ask, as I`ve been out the game for a while, and they didn`t exist 5 years ago :biggrin

Now I`ve bought my `04 RSVR, I`ve found that it`s fitted with them, but the tread looks good.

I`ve not really found what I wanted by Googling them, but I`ve gathered enough to see that they seem pretty decent in the dry, and are good for trackdays.

My main question is: Are they any good in the wet on the road, or do they become a liability if it rains when I`m out ?

PS: Sorry for the numpty question, but as I said, been away from biking for a few years, and now desperately trying to catch up ! :eek:
 
until recently Ive always had RR's, never had a problem on road or track...some will tell you different but some just dont like dunlops!!!!
 
I can highly recommend k tecs, done several trackdays on em, very impressed when hot.
 
Got to say I dont like Dunlops, I use Racetecs. Mate swears by 2ct's in the dry and wet, someone on here has just tried Maxxis and gave a good report at £150 a pair fitted got to be worth a go.:thumbup
 
Cheers for the replies gents, but it`s really their abilities in the wet (on the road) that I`m asking about, ie: will they want to slide quickly, or will they be fine, as long as I factor in more of a "wet lean angle", of course :biggrin
 
d208rr are a street and little bit of a track tyre. There oke :thumbup, just check when they were made, it usualy says on the tyre DOT2108, which means 21 week of 2008. If they are more than 3-4 years old replace them no matter how much thread they have on.

Otherwise the tyre is good.
 
I find that the 208RR's are almost as good as good as the current crop for road use, they do move around a bit more than say the DCIII's/2CT's which can be a bit disconcerting.
On the track they are okay but can snap suddenly when pushed very hard.
 
I don't have a problem with Dunlops as such but they wouldn't be my first choice, however that makes the fact that I really rate the D208RR's for road use at least, really significant from my point of view.

I've never taken them on the track so I couldn't comment on that but in terms of road use wet or dry I've never had an issue. I'm not especially quick at all, probably average, but I'm not too bad in the wet and while I don't push the D208RR's they've never let me down and have remained planted in all conditions. Great reassurring feedback and grip in all conditions from my point of view but I enphasise that I don't really push them and I'm generally quite a smooth rider too. (I think that's a euphomism for quite slow.) Hope that helps. :thumbup
 
The dunlops are fine mate , people go on about tyres all the time for somat to talk about me finks . Like many on here i have had many bikes with all sorts on ,my rsv came with 208rr fitted and i stayed with em without any drama's . Imo there are no bad road tyres anymore ,most probs come from rider error and lack of respect for floating diesel etc ...

I get 3500 to 4000 out of a back and 5000 out of a front which i think is acceptable ...

Bottom line is if you ride like rossi on road you have to expect to rebuild you bike now and again (man holes,sheep,cars,diesel,) blah blah blah .....
 
I have them on mine and hate them! In the wet they slide about far too much and I have no confidence in them. Gonna change em when I get back from hols if I have any spare cash.
 
I always use Dunlops, I have used pretty much most of them stemming back to the D204. I found the D208RR a very good tyre for hard riding and found the front very positive. Race replicas are never overly great in the wet as that is not what they are designed for, but I have been running the D209 Qualifier RR recently and find them really good, even in the wet. Mind you they do have more tread than the D208RR and they last a lot better as well.
 
Excellent gents, as always, just what I was looking for.

Thanks for ALL the replies, and as long as they are not too old (will check that one in the morning), I think I`m going to keep hold of them for a while longer, and see how they go.
