dropping the forks

Seeing as as I spent most of last years miles on the track, and I have less and less time time for road riding, I'm considering dropping the forks through the yokes to get a little more weight over the front to get more feel and confidence from the front

Who's done it, by how much, and what difference did it make?

Me, down to second line. Slightly better. Bit easier to hold a line around tighter bends. Think Paul went to 4.

Yup 4 it is, it's about the max, if you go 5 you risk bottoming out the nose on the front mudguard.

FWIW it's still OK in a straight line, can get a little lively up front when you are hard on the gas - need that rear end adjusting up.

Hello everyone!

I've dropped the forks one mine to between 4 & 5, as i wanted to try out fitting clip-ons.

Very fast turn in, it works for me and has no clearance problems. I've fitted an Ohlins shock to raise the rear......but it can get a bit lively!! Will probably swop the standard damper for an Ohlins one soon

I've fitted an ohlins shock which made a big difference. Front is currently one ring showing

There's two things I want to try to solve. Firstly it's very lively on hard gas, shaking it's head and very sensitive to any direction input. The back and front have been setup for me by Griff so im pretty confident in that. Secondly I'd like more feeling and confidence in the front in cornering. My thinking is to try to get some more of my (limited) weight over the front.

Like the clip-ons, what difference have they made?

I wish I still had my Gilles adjustable clip ons off my Rsvr. I'd love to try them on the T. They were gold too ;-)

For me its completely changed the attitude of the bike. Far more connected with the front wheel. It tips in instantly, and drops faster than i can remember some of my old sports bikes......and I'm happy with the trade off on comfort and stability

Rusty76, i was the same as you and wanted more confidence in the front wheel (though i never found it that lively before, maybe i wasn't riding hard enough?!).

They are mounted above the top yoke, and inverted, so they are more flat. Not as extreme as RSV clip ons, about half way between an RSV and regular T. Credit to an AF1 user for the idea.

Here are a couple more pics:

You need to get lower over the front - either different bars/cip ons or (as I do) lean forward when you hang off.

oh pleaaasssseee bring back the summer

There's so much I wanna play around with, I AM gonna nail sub-1:10 at Mallory on the T

Would be good if we could get together for a trackday. Only managed five last last year due to crocked back

2 rings down on mine and also set up by griff, seems good to me, quick turn in and holds its line powering out of a corner better than standard. Is it me or clip ons on a tuono kind of misses the point, just buy a mille !!

You guys need to try a 190 -55 -17 ,rear hoop on the back , raises the back by abowt 8,mm tips in all right now ,have put forks back to standed settings as well .

once they start publishing dates at the tracks we'll have to sort a few dates. i can show you the line around Cadwell, you can guide me around Mallory.
I haven't been timing myself around Cadders lately, but should be able to get sub 1:50 - I think. :)

Won't take long to learn all I know about mallory; long very fast corner - very dodgy chicane - slow hairpin and another **** chicane - then repeat

I spoke to some of the blokes off the Aprilia Performance forum (aka Griffs). They had a group do at Cadwell last year and are planning to repeat it, maybe to also include some other tracks. Might as well tag along with that

Perfect for the A road blast, I am 5' 6" and fat I ride over the front. I find this setting perfect for for my favourite roads as it makes the bike feel as though it is turning in a lot faster. I have also turned my steering damper in 5 clicks. I would guess that these settings would suit a track like Cadwell although I have not rode Cadwell on a Tuono.

I ride mine at about the same settings, steering damper is 1 or 2 clicks in only and perfect around Cadwell.
