dropping the forks off

bought a mint 5000 mile 2000 model RSVR a few weeks back. Unfortunately, not even had a chance to ride the damn thing yet as it's not mot'd. For the MOT it needs new fork seals.

My question is, whats the easiest way to drop the forks out? Normally I'd put the bike on an Abba stand and jack the front up on the exhausts. This works fine on 4 cyl bikes but I'm not keen on putting so much load through the front pipe only.

Also, has anyone done the Ohlins fork seals themselves? I believe they need a special tool?
 
Easiest way i have always found is to take the body work off, inc tank, undo everything you can think off, but not remove it, put some tyres on the side of where the bike is going to go, and lower the bike onto its side, then take the wheel and forks out nice and easy, plus theres no chance the bike is going to fall over.

May be long winded, but works for me everytime.
 
I leave all the bodywork on!

Put the bike on the rear paddock stand, lift the front and place a strong piece of wood under the lower yoke so that the front of the bike is supported by the rear stand and the single piece of wood under the front end, then remove the front wheel.

Slacken off all the fork clamps and reset to the correct height.

It's a 10 - 15 minute job.

Tht's an interesting way round it, normally I put a bar thru the swinging arm pivot and rest the ends on axle stand, then jack under the front of the motor.

Works a treat on the big Sv but I tried it with the Mille and it just took the weight off the stands.:dunno

Must have a lot more bias to the front wheel weight wise, I'll try your way next time :thumbup

I mate a t pice out of 2x4 and put it under lower yoke and left all the bodywork on same as amb67

I notice on Griffs site a pic of an rsv on a rear paddock stand and no forks. looks like it's being jacked up on the exhaust?

May have to bite the bullet and buy a front padock stand that fits under the yolk.
 
Trust me the wood under the yoke is as stable as the £60 front paddock stand from Scorpion.

Been using the old piece of wood trick under the bottom yoke for almost 25 years and never once had a mishap.
 
I'm obviously not visualizing it properly. can you explain a bit further?

I raise the rear on a paddock stand. Place steel rod through swing arm nut/bolt and support with axle stands. I then remove the paddock stand. I then lift the front and place two custom cut pieces of wood under the front crash bungs. This supports the front off the ground. I like the wood under the headstock idea though.
 
iuse three methods of suppoting the bike on the bench!
The rear paddock stnd is the fave along with the bar through the spindle ...akthough i now so have access to an engine hoist so just a walk in the park for me now big strap under the yolks job done safe as houses!

could you borrow one of them off someone? really nothing to it then dude!
