Sorry if this has already been discussed, I have done a search on the forum but came up with nowt!

Any opinions on this type of clothing? I know that there is a few different makes out there. I know they are not waterproof, but how is the protection of these kelvar jeans etc.

cheers gadgies.

I've had Richa ones for about 4 years now Smin. They've got more kevlar in than most of the others and are pretty wind/chill proof. I sprayed some water proofer on them and their ok for the odd shower. They give like normal strides after a while too.

I think it's been discussed before somewhere and the general consensus was leather all the way. If you're dead set on getting a pair though de rigour camo jeans are the way forward. Cool or what? Look like you're a wannabe army reject and ride a bike. It's like rebel without a clue!!!

Leather all day really innit, but sometimes you only nip for a ride to the pub and its less aggro and better than normal keks eh. I took them to Scotland and rode in them in the day and put them back on at night when we were sat outside gob ***** ing. A compromise :thumbup

I've tried Hood and Draggin, they're both good but i find that draggin win on comfort for me but everybody is different. As far as protection goes according to what i've read in the past they fall somewhere between jeans and leathers, you can only really go on what they tell you on the websites or search the internet for an independent test.

I think I saw a set of combat type ones once that had the full armour in pockets rather than as newelly said the other day velcroed in on the inside.

I've got Hoods and really rate them. Way more comfy than leathers, but I'll only wear them on steady-paced shortish rides as though I trust them they're no way going to offer the protection leather does. The Hoods have a full kevlar lining to below the knees which makes them a bit heavier and warmer but more peace of mind. I looked at Draggin' jeans and they look good (and get good reviews) but I was put off by the price (£40 more than the Hoods) and the fact that the kevlar is in separate panels.

Get what you're saying nob but how difficult is it to just pop some Jeans into a small ruc sac and just change in the pub car park. I'm bot averse to getting down into my strides and changing really. After all people parade on beaches wearing skimpier speedos than my boxers. Plus there's always leather jeans which if you've a bike pair of motorbike boots on etc you don't look like a 70's reject In whilst sat in a pub anyway.

I just think all the tests come back and say leather is safer as it slides rather than sticks and flips a rider. Didn't they say something about this on the tt coverage this year?

Nice to have options though ain't it? I've got one piece leathers, two piece leathers, textile jacket, kevlar jeans. Mix 'n' match, wear what you want depending on the type of ride, who you're with, where you're going, the weather, etc etc......

If I'm going camping and ain't got much room they go on. If I get back to my tent shitfaced they stay on. If I'm just nipping out for a quiet snifter they go on. If it's really warm they go on. If I'm having a fat day they go on. Fuxxake their always on :thumbup

well i got dragging jeans.....they are like sandpaper on backs of my legs and bum....ok for short rides but too far and i get a burning arse:no

I don't know if the company is still going but a few years ago they tried to sell a Kevlar 1 piece race suit, loads lighter than leather, far more flexible, cooler and sponsor logo's printed on, sounds great doesn't it, well my mate crashed in it (high speed off an R71), it survived really well but he was burnt and blistered on all the impact/contact points as the kevlar super heats with friction.
I still wear kevlar jeans as they are a huge improvement on normal denim but leathers are far far better if you can be bothered with the fight to get them on.

I've got a pair of Red Route jeans. Not bad quality and bloody heavy. They can get a bit sweaty at this time of year.I use 'em for short rides to the pub or if I go somewhere where a bit of walking is involved.(bike show or summat.)I prefer me leathers but yer sometimes feel a bit of a knob turning up at a nice pub looking like a Nazi Stormtrooper.

Yep,they are still on the go.(GTS racing)I know a lad that had a Ducati replica suit.He was so skinny,he could'nt find leathers to fit. They were weird looking things and always appeared to be mucky. These days they mainly make suits for speedway riders.Mind you,I have heard that due to the friction burns, some riders are considering going back to leathers.

I have draggin. I tried loads on in m&p when I bought them and they were easily the comfiest/best fitting. However they were £170.

No knock protection at all though so I only wear them on rides of a few miles as they are so much cooler than either my textiles with no liner or leathers.

As Gilo said, its about flexibility. I've said this many times that if you ride most of the year you need loads of kit. Kevlar jeans are perfect for shorter rides when it's hot & dry.

Great feedback guys..cheers. They were putting on and gan to see mi mates for a coffee etc. Pain getting on mi bib and brace textiles for that.

I bought a pair of Shift Jeans two years ago in the states - you can get them through e-bay, and have to say they are **** hot ...... no one even looks twice - there just like a normal pair of jeans - but with all the kevlar stiched in. Use them all the time and haven't got a bad word to say about them. Oh maybe one thing they have shrunk in the wash ..... or was that my belly getting bigger ???
