Tim

Theres also Gabro chips which are highly regarded
he's found on af1 forum
I've had one in my mille & have one in my tuono & rate them highly as to most the american communtity

Theres a guy on rsvr.net elliot who does custom chips
not had any experience of his but have seen good reviews

ED's eproms are extremely good , I run one and so far cannot complain, no drama's with it but the bike feels more urgent , keener on the throttle , more engaging ..in short makes the bike a bit more interesting.

Gabro chips rock but i dont know out of dr rossi and gabro which would be considered the best..

ED Elliot over on RSVR.NET......

In order

Ed's Eprom
Gabro F255
Dr Rossi

and yes ive tried all 3 !!

Edelliot....got it !

Part of the thinking behind trying to get the date of manufacture of the engine ( which was swapped out at some point ) is that I know what Im dealing with when I ask for an Eprom...if cam profile was updated, they'll need to know that IMO....although a PC II will help me cure any imperfections I guess !
Also wanna know whether the motor was pre slipper clutch ( PPC ) or not....

All RSV's have the back torque limiting device (slipper clutch is perhaps a generous word). The only real difference in engines is that between the twin plug small valve motor and single plug large valve engine , the large valve made a little more power than the small valve.
It could be argued that a good chip is all that you need a PCIII will only affect the fuel injector pulse cycles, however its your choice.

More important are the mods that have been done to go along with the new eprom....

Ive heard the comments about PCIII. I got a unit relatively cheaply . I am already invested in Dynojet as I use PC V and double tune AT300 on a yamaha.
Ed has told me a chip for my mods is doable. I asked him already and listed the mods. He did not have concerns about the engine.
Im pretty sure the bikes use the same motors but between 1999 and 2003, they made from 113ps, 128ps and latterly 133ps from factory...I want to know which one I am starting with.
What is less clear is how effectively switching between maps on a twin eprom will be once the PCIII is installed and tuned out on a dyno....? I may leave the unit off. We'll see. You have to understand my Yamaha has a closed loop ECU....so being able to tune these bikes so easily is a bit of a"boon"- I cant quite believe it actually....! That said, you cant beat a custom map, made on a dyno. Then again, you cant argue with the real time tuning of AT300 above that. But where do you stop?:exclamation

Confused on big or small valve engines now!!!
Mine is an 02 Mille I have twin sparks but thought it was a big valve motor?
The standard EPROM was a RP58 which is a big valve engine one according to this site.

98-00 small valve motor
01-02 big valve motor
03 big valve & close ratio gear box

then for each ape model with the 990 motor had different engine codes

Thats what I though but
The only real difference in engines is that between the twin plug small valve motor and single plug large valve engine , the large valve made a little more power than the small valve.
I guess this is the wrong way round then!
Does the Gen1 engine have single sparks then?

Gen one has twin plug per cylinder
Gen two has single plug per cylinder

correct as far as I see it yes.
Gen1 twin spark small valve 99-00 36mm inlet valves.
Gen1 twin spark big valve 01-03 38mm inlet valves

Here it is again
