dog bones

Hi Guys, first post, apart from my intro, so be gentle with me. I've got my wheels in at the local bike garage having some new tyres fitted, so, I thought I'd have a go at greasing the dog bone needle bearings, etc,, was a bit of a fiddle as never had to do anything like these before, but persevered and got them done, my question is for the technical bods out there, do the relevant nuts and bolts that hold said assembly together need torqueing up or just until they all feel tight enough, if that makes sense, many thanks.

Assuming it's a gen 2 then it's 50nm all round...

Also assuming you did both ends of the dog bone.... AND the swing arm end of the triangle too...

My experience is that the engine end of the dog bone dries out... the other end attracts water & the swing arm one was fine, but makes sense to do all of em.

MM this is a most important task that has to be done annually , make sure you do it right and ALL bolts must be torqued correctly .

ive just had my valve clearances checked at Aprilia Performance in Tamworth , in their show case of shame there are 2 off dog bones that have sheared to to lack of maintenance.

its just scary thinking of the consequences !!. I see you are near diss narfuck , im in sheringham narfuck , if you were a bit closer I,d come and give you a look .

Thanks for the responses guy's, managed to find settings in another thread. The bike had sat un used in a work mates garage for five years before I bought it and I was uncertain when they would have been looked at last, so I thought it was the ideal time to check and lube as the wheels were out having new tyres fitted. Glad it's the sort of job that only needs doing yearly, but all done now, so thanks once again.

Is that a service recommendation or really necessary?

What's the recommended mileage - based on user experience - between regreasing?

At least once a year........ perhaps more if you ride in a lot of rain.

Fit new bearings last summer, + checked em at the begining of this year and the engine end of the dog bone was a tad drier than the triangle end...

I also fit the washers (from spooky over on rsvr.net) on the triangle end of the dog bone - no sign of water getting in at all so looks like a few pence well spent

For the time it takes against the "potential" disaster tiz time well spent.
