I stripped the dog bone last winter and repacked with racing grease. Ive done approx 2k miles this year and ridden in the wet a couple of times.
I was going to leave it another year before attempting again what with minimal miles and wet ridding. What are people's thoughts on redoing the dog bone this winter?

Assuming it was in good knick when you last did the job, I can not imagine it would need doing again given the lack of usage and lack of rainy trips.

Sod all miles and little rain, but the engine end does get hot and the grease can dry out.

I do mine at least once, usually twice a year regardless.

It's always the engine one that drys out. Putting the plastic washers / seals on the exposed end of the dog bone does stop any water getting in...

:)

Hmmm... I've heard from several Tuono sources that it's the bearing nearest the rear wheel that goes first, not due to engine heat but all the rain spray from rear wheel. Definately the case for my bike. That specific bearing was a dog to get out. Had to put it on a fly press.

But as above, I'd run it a second year without need to check/repack if bike has only been used in the wet a few times.

Folks who fit the teflon washers recon they can go several years without need for regreasing... so long as water proof grease is used - as the washers help keep water and dirt out. But it's a critical part for safety, so worth checking every 2 years I recon. Easy job if you don't have to replace the bearings, and use axle stands with bolts (or big Allen keys) inserted into the swingarm pivot to hold bike up. So long as front pipe can be loosened easy (I replaced the stud nuts last time, so should be easy to do in future).

PS: if you service via the legendary Aprillia Performance (Tamworth) they regrease dogbone every service I believe.

Thanks for feedback folk's. I think I'll check the joints next autumn give I don't see many miles getting put on my tuono this year.

Mine were greased every second year (6-8k miles).

Replaced them early last year with 26k miles on the clock.

You wouldn't believe the ****** weather I ride in and they get hit with the pressure washer as well.

Can't remember what set were worse off but that set were the only ones needing replacement,,,,,,,,,did them all though, silly not to.
