Does anyone in the UK or NZ recognize this bike?

Well I finally got an Ape. I was looking at a 2002 RSV Mille R (rear seat standard over here) but then the guy turned around and decided to keep it. Anyway, a 2000 RSV Mille R (ex-UK) turned up slightly cheaper, with full service history, all receipts, a PC3, Akropovic can and Datatool alarm. It was slightly cheaper than the other one. 28,000kms, a few bumps and scrapes, near new Battlax 016 tyres. Only downside is that it is the single-seat bike so the hunt begins for a rear seat and pegs.

Anyway, the bike's UK rego. no. was X936XAA and was first owned by Neil Kerr, from Woking, Surrey, then went to Adam Lancashire, from Nunhead, London.

It seems Mr. Lancashire imported it to NZ. New Rego no. 70YSW.

just wondering if anyone knew the bike and its history.

Cheers,

Harry

No idea about the bike but check if the bike has a dual seat subframe as well, has it got footpeg bolt holes on the left side, does the subframe extend right to the seat locking pin? If not you need a dual subframe :)

Hey a fellow Kiwi! Woo hoo. Do you know about the website "CarJam"? You can put the plates in there and it gives a history of the vehicle in NZ. Also, there was an auction on TM for a rear seat and footpeg hangers amongst other things. I have picked up a lot of stuff over time from there, so pays to keep a lookout. Can possibly help you out finding the stuff you need, been in contact with a lot of people over parts etc in the last 6 months. Flick me an email or a PM.

Damn Kiwi's get everywhere, even in N.Z :pirate , there's a bloke on here forum name Sensei he's from the N.I (we wont hold that against him), he might be worth contacting as well.
If you need help with paint and the likes pm me my brother is in ChCh and deals with paint and a pretty good sprayer as well.

Forget the twin seat and get down to Ruapuna for a few trackdays !!

according to the UK DVLA vehicles with an 'X' plate are temporarily exported vehicles (-> click me <- so it may well have had a different reg before?! but in saying that I think my one frame has an X reg plate?! so wikepedia may be wrong (REALLY WIKI WRONG! NEVER!!! ;) )

here's what the DVLA have on thier site for that reg:

The vehicle details for X936 XAA are:
Date of Liability 01 12 2006
Date of First Registration 10 01 2001
Year of Manufacture 2001
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1000cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker Y
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour MULTI-COLOUR
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

Are you getting confused between the 2 Xs? The X at the start is the X Reg (year indicator for 2001) the X in the XAA is the Export marker.

There used to be some tax advantages to buying a UK vehicle from abroad. So, for instance, a UK squaddie based in Germany, might buy new a UK registered vehicle while they were abroad and have it delivered to them (with an X plate). If they then returned to the UK with the vehicle and kept it for a year they did not have to pay whatever tax it was. I don't think the registration number was changed again on return to the UK. This might be wrong.

never gave it too much thought really :) but yep I guess I was thinking the prefix as I think I have an X reg plate on one of mine. Cheers for clearing it up (it did strike me as wierd - to begin with I was trying to remember what prefix they give bitsa's, but after a bit of googling I found (and then remembered :) ) it was a 'Q' plate).

If you're looking for new parts as well, make sure to check out AF1 in America. I got a price for a rear master cylinder from Andy at sweetstreet, he quoted $100 plus shipping. I bought a brand new genuine one from AF1, landed at my door for $140 NZD and only 6 days (including weekend) to get here... Not too bad I thought. I've done a few mods here and there, changed sprockets, fitted PC3, Aprilia titanium pipe and Eprom etc... Any questions just flick me a message.

Had to double check my reg after reading this the first time...mines very similar being X897 XAA. Interesting what was said about the export marker, iv never heard of that so will look into it.

Thanks for all the answers guys. The rego number was from new as I even have some of the old rego stickers from the UK. I'll keep a look out on trademe for parts but to be honest Kiwi businesses seem to delight in ripping customers off so I'll try to import panels from elsewhere. I've been quoted $250 for plastic welding (fair) but $1400 to paint the side fairings and half of the front fairing. Dream on. That's half the cost of a car paint job but the area of a car bonnet.

Anyway the clutch is slipping at the moment, so that's more important. Strange because it's only done 2000kms since the friction plates and springs were replaced. Perhaps the oil is wrong for it.

I've cut the stupid Datatool alarm out after finding that it's just annoying and the siren no longer works anyway. Battery-hog. While under the plastics I cut out the connectors in the charge circuit and soldered them. I now have about 14.1V across the battery terminals at idle.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Harry

Hey Harry, Shame you're not closer, there is a place here I could put you in touch with that would do the painting for very reasonable money. Freight would kill the deal though. How did you get on finding that biposto sub frame? I see they have them on AF1 for about $500 landed in NZ... Could be worth a look?
