Does a bike need tracking!

Sorry to ask a what might be a silly question but i was wondering if its possible to track the front wheel on a bike?

The reason i ask is because when i was applying my rim tap "no jokes please" i noticed the front tyre was wearing oddly! im hoping to god its just something that needs adjusting and its not acctually bent from the crash :bawling
 
Spoonz if i explain the shape of the tyre it might help abit more, also is the tyre pressure stated in the manual the advised pressure to go for or is it more personal preference?

The front tyre is diablo corsa and theres a steeper angle on the one side then the other if that makes sence, theres no odd feeling through the handle bars and at high speeds it feels fine,

One thing when i use the front brake theres a slight bit of play
 
same ones buddy didnt get them checked, but there was no physical damage on the forks wheels ect,
 
For the tyre to wear more on one side than the other assuming you don't ride round roundabouts all day then the wheel must be sitting at an angle in the forks.

I would check forks havn't twisted in the clamps by undoing the bolts on the lower clamp on both sides and bouncing the forks a few times.
you could also drop the fork legs out and roll them on a flat surface to see if there is any bend.

If you worried about a possible twist in the frame then sometimes if it's bad enough someone riding behind you will see the misalignment in the wheels as you ride along. I would ecpect you to have some pulling to one side when you relax on the bars if something were badly twisted though.

As Spoonz said..if the rim and tyre is balanced then it comes down to forks. Might pay to slip em out..check for bend et.. chk springs and internals..give em a flush and replace the required amount of new oil and set em back nice and even in the triple clamps. :thumbup

put a little felt pen mark on the fork legs and bottom clamp and then loosen it both sides and bounce the forks. If the pen marks then don't line up you know the forks have sprung back to a natural position. You are probaly only talking a few mm. I would also loosen the fronk axle and pinch bolts as well.

Removing the forks is not hard but you need a stand to suspend the front of the bike while your doing it.

Don't rule out the tyre carcass being damaged especially if the uneven wear is not uniform.

Yep you got it but loosen both forks at the same time. If the lines don't move it doesn't mean your forks are straight it just verifies it's not down to them twisting in the yokes.

check you front pressure as well. If your running too low pressure you may have cupping giving you the abnormal wear.
 
sounds spot on to me bud, so if the felt pen still lines u after ive done the above process and the tyre pressures are ok, what options am i left to then mate?

Is it going to be a matter of no other option apart from removing the legs and rolling them to see if there bent?
 
you could see if a local dealer has a laser alignment which might tell you something.
you could also check both fork legs are adjusted equally and not stiffer on one leg or something weird.

A dealer may have an opinion on seeing the tyre on the possibility of it being a tyre issue rather than the bike as a whole.
 
great stuff buddy well ill take one step at a time first off ill check the pressures then the felt pen trick and then go from there,
 
Milleboy82, just to put your mind at rest before you dismantle the bike. Exactly the same thing happened to me on my 748 with Corsa III's fitted. Didn't happen with previous tyres, no knocks to the bike in between, just that one tyre wore strangely. The dealer noticed when it went in for a service. I hadn't noticed anything in the handling. I think this is because it happens so slowly we just adapt to the very small changes as they occur. Just stick a new tyre on and it will more than likely be fine. :cheers
 
Dave ya little Angel i just some weight off me shoulders when i read that, im gonna check the above still well the pressure and felt tip pen test but if they turn out to be ok ill leave it there because as you said theres no odd feeling when riding it
