do rsv gen2 heads fit gen1 engine? A big valve question!

Bit of an odd question, which exposes my lack of knowledge! but i am looking to boost power on my 2003 RSVR (Gen1). Big bore is not an option due to class rules, and I have done most of the more superficial mods (chip, balanced headers, PC3 and airbox underway). I plan to do the big valves and 57mm TB's at the same time. I am now wondering if the bigger valve heads from a later model RSVR would be a possibility? Or is there another way (£2000 for AF1 stage1 heads is beyond my pocket!)

As always, help from you gurus is much appreciated:thumbup

Cheaper to simply buy a clean, low mileage 06 engine & TBs? I happen to have exactly those items available......

If you buy a newer engine and want to use older ecu(i should prefer that becuse you can adjust ignition timing with old ecu) you need to swap flywheel and the cover on the left side.

as above check out the af1 forum for all the info... they are basically SP heads :devious

failing that you'll need to chat to frank wrathel (?) to get him to port and polish...he's well known for his work on the mro challenge engines

Thanks to everyone for the input, and the gen2 engine offer. Unfortunately, the class i am racing does not allow gen2 motors, or this would be the obvious route. I spoke to Frank Wrathall, but the head work (inc. new cams) was quoted at circa £3K.

Not sure about the next step....did the Edwards have large valves?

Redratbike-did you mean the gen2 heads are basically SP heads? if so, they would be eligible for my class . I can use any parts that were available upto 2003.

3k:eek: and i bought the heads and cams for 250 off someone woo hoo...then found out the heads were cracked and cams were scored so sent them back...gutted...ok try http://www.jhsracing.co.uk/ they carry bigbore conversions and headwork..they wanted 2500 for ride in ride out bigbore /heads and cams so must be better option cost wise for the head and cam work .

Micah from AF1 said the later heads were basically a cast version of the sp heads and the standard headers were a copy of the akrapovic system from 01-03 models

now there has been some heads floating around on ebay for a year or 2 ,brand new in the box aprilia performance parts sure the guy never sold them started at 1500 and got as low as 750 ..if i can find the ebay seller's id i'll get back in touch
