I recently had a small petrol leak which I located at the fuel pump gasket. Dealer replaced gasket and the leak has stopped but he pointed out that the underside of the tank was distorted and the tank enlarged. I understand this is the effect of ethanol on plastic (good move to make plastic tanks!) This made lifting/fitting of the tank a two person job. At £2k for a replacement it was an easy decision to put up with the current fitting issue.
BUT on the rear right side of the tank by the seat I have small bubbles under the grey decal. Is it possible that the plastic tank has deteriorated enough to allow petrol through or is it just air bubbles (loath to burst one in case it is petrol)?
If it is petrol is there a way of repairing the damage?
