hello guys ive been avidly researching most nights so i can get the best aprilia in my price range, but other then looks what differs between the early model rsvrs and the newer rsvrs?

i know the older models have some common problems like the sprag, battery and sidestand etc is there any common issues with the newer models

im looking to buy either a 2002 rsvr or a 2004 and really want to know will the extra be worth paying for the newer model?

im stuck in my research as i cant find so much informotion on a newer rsv? opinions from people who have owned/rid both models

cheers :) im scratching to buy one

Owned two Gen 1's, rode a Gen 2 a couple of times. Preferred the Gen 1 (hence owning them) as I felt they had a bit more character, the engine in the new one felt like it needed to be revved out a bit more to get it shifting along right and although they're both fantastic bikes, the Gen 1 felt like it had a bit more Character. I know it's one of the faux pas when describing Italian bikes/cars but it felt like it had more of that something special that makes Italian machines so much better to own. I would most definitely suggest buying a very tidy Gen 1 over an average Gen 2, you won't be left wanting and it'll put a smile on your face each and every time you ride it :inlove But that's just me, each to their own at the end of the day. Take each one for a test ride and decide what works best for you :thumbup

gen2 57mm throttle bodies/diff cams/heads etc..basically more power and more refined than the earlier bikes.

As above Gen1 bike has a raw feel to it where as i felt the Gen2 had a jap feel as i said more refined.

Id love to test ride both but last time i went to try test ride a 02 rsv they wouldnt let me as i was under 25 so i wouldnt be covered on there insurance to ride it :( ill basically be buyin on looks and reccomendations, i once rid a gen1 rsv but about 4/5 years ago so cant really remember the feeling , seat riding position etc and i dont know anyone with an rsv to go look at :( i like the shape of the old one Nd the new with the twin exhaust etc , altho physically it looks smaller

I defiantly want some sort of rsv though id prefer an rsvr for the ohlins, carbon and usd forks

:)

hi mate
became the very proud owner of an 05 rsv r last week, first one!, i bought mine on looks and recomendation never thought to sit on her, just had to have it, imagine my surprise when i threw my leg over her to ride out the showroom, only to find i could barely touch the floor!!! felt a bit of a tit as i wobbled away in front of the salesmen. needless to say a bit of cutting of foam with the bread knife and some stapling and hey presto i now touch the floor, what a fantastic bike totally love it, dont over think it buy one asap its not just a bike its a m&s bike lol. have fun

Haha awesome , roughly how tall are you cause im not near 6ft lol so may have to do some moddage

Im built like a Michelin man (I provided the mould) at 6 foot and 18 stone , it tends to look like a Gorilla with a roller skate up his arse.

However it is one of the best fitting bikes i've ever ridden.

The gen1s are tall i am 6ft and wobbled away when i first got it, still have to be on tippy toes when at the lights, gonna lower the rear a tad i think

Yes they are tall, but I'm a short arsed 5'6" on a good day and I manage fine. If I need to roll the bike back I do get off rather than scoot it backwards but other than that no issues.
Get gen 1 RSVR, you'll love it.

Yeah gen1 all the way

Although i have never ridden any later models

I think i met you at griffs place uglyfatfook....

Quite possibly, was there for the sussy set up day with the yellow rsvr in the back of my van. Which one were you, I was really confused about who was who when I left. Lol.

Yeah i thought that was you...

I was there on my own came in a balfour beatty van, was talking to you outside when you were unloading the yellow beast...

i would go for the 04 model as it is the same as the latest model and you will get more easily parts for longer period anyway if older model then 02-03

Are you the skier I was nattering to or the other guy with the van? Damn there were more vans than bikes there. Lol.
Either way t'was good to meet you.

Musta have been the other guy never been skiing ...i would post a pic but i really cant be arsed setting up a flicker account. Or is there a way to link to facebook account?

You came in late if i remember rightly!
