Quick question guys.

Sprocker and myself went to look at a bike a few hrs ago and Sprocker spotted a small dent behind the exhaust, around a 50p in dia and 2-3mm deep. Does any1 have an idea if this should cause me any problems? I really hope not as the bike is very nice.

Also the new rear tyre he has is a Continental Contiforce and the front is a BT014. Should i replace the front or rear tyre, or run with diff types on the bike?

Thanks all.

Special thanks to Sprocker for taking time out of his day to give some pointers round his bike and even travelling to take a look at my possible future bike. Cheers man. :biggrin

Hello mate

Would deffo change both of the tyres, as you shouldn't mix as rule of thumb :jack The rear looks like its at the end of its life, so you could always change the rear to match the front (If its ok) if you're budgeting

Regards to the dent, sounds like its been down at some point, but I'd speak to an Aprilia man (ring Andy or Don, at Southern Cross Aprilia) for another opinion :thumbup

Spydz,

Any dent in the swing arm or frame for that matter is pretty much classed as a CAT D right off !!!

I doubt the dent would have any effect on the bike, you just need to make sure you paying a good price for it.

The guys at Southern Cross Aprilia pretty much said what u just posted Ritch.

Think its worth trying to knock him down some more then.

You need to check its not registered as a write off, cos even if you change the swing arm it's still a write off !!!

Other than that mate if the rest of the bike sounds and your getting it a good price go for it !!!

Cheers,

Ritch

whats easiest way to check if its been written off?

Also it has just been T&T'd, would they be able to do this if its written off?

From the sounds of the size and dent depth it wont have any effect on the bike. He said to just make sure you get a good price for it.

Ebay £500 :rant

Try this guy buddy :thumbup His name is Mark and based in Chelmsford just down the road from me, had loads of parts from him, and at reasonable prices for cash if you go direct :devious:biggrin

He's one he's selling, but look dented, but he's always got new parts on his site. The one you were looking at is for the 2004 and onwards model

If its been registered as a write off it should be on the log book (V5).

Cat C and D can be T&T'd, but Cat A and B cant. Cat A is crushed/scrapped and Cat B salvage only.

Thanks loads guys its much appriciated :)

Hopefully soon i will be thundering along on a VTwin scaring all the old ladies :angry

Write-offs don't show on the V5C, get it HPI'd....

Common cause of the dent is the bike being dropped and the exhaust can dinging the swingarm...

If buying a second-hand swingarm, make sure its the new type and not someone trying to flog off an old type one....

My attitude on the subject of a swingarm ding: :smilie

I did a nice lowside a couple weekends ago and once I removed my pipe I noticed this little ding hiding behind it.

:pissl

Looking down the swingarm leg from the rear it shows not a bit of alignment problem. I'm riding the damn thing. I see no chance of any problems because of it. The thickness of the aluminum must be REALLY thin because the Ti exhaust can showed NO damage to the inside that was facing the swinger. I had to go back and closely inspect it and one of the rivets just barely shows a scratch. Those swingarms are super thinwall material. There are swingarms for sale all the time and price isn't the problem. Replacing it is a pain in the *** though!!

I didn't even see the dent for a while after my little slide off the road. I was pretty bummed when I removed the pipe! It's all good though. I'm not stressing it. I can get another one anytime I want but I'm just going to ride the damn thing!! It ain't some collector motorcycle or anything. :rockon

Yeah you won't ever have a problem with it. Plus someday you'll find someone willing to sell their swingarm for some cash. I'm sure the owner is expecting you to make an issue of that little blemish. Just go get it! You don't see the blue ones very often. :devious

Hopefully you will get the rear cowl as well!! It looks a lot better without the rear seat on there. Those cowls are expensive and really hard to find used so I would be more worried if the rear cowl wasn't included!

As has been said, a dent in the swingarm is caused by the exhaust end can hitting the swingarm. Also check the the frame for marks behind the brake and gear lever again indicating the bike's been down the road. Any of these would normally write off an early Mille due to costs so do a Hpi check to see if it's been classed as a Cat D. It's up to you whether you buy it but a small dent won't be any problem. Might be an issue if you come to sell it again though. I'd certainly want at least £600 off the asking price for a replacement swingarm

Might be worth sending a message to Neil B as he has put on here his bike has been wrote off and is selling bits of it so might be worth a shout as long as his swing arm wasn't damaged in the accident. It's the same model as well

The seat cowl is included :thumbup with the bike, along with the standard pipe too :devious

LEGS, Sprocker had a good check over the bike with me, only other dmg than the swing arm was some minor scratches on the rhs lower fairing. Reason for the damage, the guy is very small and simply dropped it at a stand still doh
