The 12000 mile service is fast approaching and I cant seem to find somewhere local do the big service, Ive phoned Crescent in Verwood(ex Aprilia dealer) told this morning that they wont touch it as they dont have the diagnostic gear... Didn't think they'd need this for a mechanical job.

Tried Snells Ducati, Just on the off chance thy would work on it, Got the same response.

Heard theres an Ape dealer on the Isle of Wight, but I'd rather use somewhere I know of/Is reccomended.

Any suggestions, Local to Hampshire the better.

I live further north on the edge of Hampshire, the closest place I can find near me at the moment is 'Corsa Italiana' in Hersham - London area

I think thats just a tad out of my way really, Id have to hang around for it to be done, so thats 4-5 hours possibly

CMW in Chichester just quoted me a price... FROM- £618. So thats the basic service and check, Assuming I don't need shims.

I cant honestly see how it can cost so much for a bloody valve check, I asked them to break it down for me.

7 HOURS labour... Really? I've stripped my ducati down to the frame replaced bearings/belts and rebuilt in 5 hours.
Normal 'service parts'... So, Oil/air filters, fresh fluids, sparks. Probably £100 in bits for them, Maybe even less.
Clear any codes/Reset parameters... No codes are showing. and the Service code can be reset by me.

All in all, its a huge rip off is'nt it? or am I missing something?

Copied the quote below from the 'Big Service Cost' thread, its from Rizla

It is very labour intensive.

I watched the tech while he was changing my inlet cams. Sounds like a simple job eh.

**** no.

Clutch cover off, generator cover off. Flywheel off.

Lock up pins inserted here there and everywhere.

Lock up pin for the front inlet cam had to be modified as it only fits through it hole with the engine out.

Cams out, buckets out,

New cams and buckets in. cams in.

Check clearances and then pull the cams again to set the four that were out of spec.

re-install everything.

i have absolutely no complaints about cost after watching him work on my bike and seeing first hand what was involved.

Alright Gav,
I live in Bournemouth and take mine to SP Motorcycles in Exeter, still a trek for you but quite a good ride down there... Down there Friday having brake master cylinder recall carried out.

I understand its labour intensive, but £618 for the valves to be only checked, others have said half that price for the same work, £800 for valves being reshimmed

Griff is in Fazeley, just below Tamworth, Nth/East side of Birmingham. Google Aprilia Performance, give him a call, and ask if/when he's down in your neck of the woods for bike servicing, and it could save you time and money.

To just check tappets should be a lot cheaper than cost inclusive of shim changes.

Some dealers quote a fixed price, irrespective of whether any, or all, shims need changing. Others quote to check, and add additional cost if one or more shims need adjustment (like Griff does). Usually... much cheaper to go the latter route, especially as shims rarely need changing on a Rotax engine.

Just called AP, they said it was £425 all in, only goes up if the shims need changing! much more like it, So i will be taking a trip up to Brum!

They even said that the other dealer quoting £618 for the same work was a joke

Shame its such a trek

Gav, As mentioned, Griff will come out to a locality with his van if he has enough bikes to service.

Ask him if/when he's in your area next, and if need be, try and muster 3 or 4 Tuonozone members in your neck of the woods!

I've planned it so that I can make it a stop on my trip to scotland in September, Might get my suspenders set up at the same time.

I can vouch for sp motorcycles I have bought some parts off them they quotes 380ish for 12k service pretty sure that was all in, I live in Chichester if my bike don't sell I'll be taking mine there unless man from brum comes here.. Bit of a trek but a day out. My local dealer (cmw) really nice and helpful but quoting 600 ish all in, my mates a mechanic and keen to do it I can turn a spanner but I'm pretty hesitant about doing the 12k myself as it sounds like you need a fair amount of specialist tools and experience to carry it out correctly so in the hands of the dealers.. I'll either take mine to griff in a van or sp
