Overshadowing his podium finish from the Indianapolis GP, Alex de Angelis didn’t make too many friends in San Marino, and certainly didn’t impress any teams in paddock with his turn 2 performance. So it isn’t with great surprise that we find de Angelis still looking for a ride in MotoGP this September.
With seats in the MotoGP paddock quickly filling up, the Sammarinese rider has even entertained the prospect of going to World Superbike for 2010, but has stated that he would not consider Moto2 as an option.
For now, it would seem that de Angelis is working on landing in one of four seats for 2010 in MotoGP: Scot Racing, Monster Yamaha Tech 3, Pramac Racing, and FB Corse. Obviously there is a pecking order for each team, with Tech3 being the darling of the satellite team paddock. Riding for Pramac would mean taking a gamble with the 2010 Desmosedici, which is a gamble many riders have tried to avoid at all costs. Then there’s wild card FB Corse who will be new to the MotoGP paddock. Young teams have always struggled in MotoGP, which has a steep learning curve, and even deeper wallet requirements. Speaking on his options in MotoGP, de Angelis said to MotoGP.com the following:
“I’m trying to remain in MotoGP, or if not then I will go to Superbikes. For the moment I’m in contact with all the teams who have not officially finalised their rider line-ups for next season, so that means Scot Racing, Monster Yamaha Tech 3 and Pramac Racing. My aim is to find the best team, without preferences, though obviously if I ride a Honda machine I won’t be starting the learning process from scratch again as I’m accustomed to the bike.*I’m also in contact with a new team, FB Corse, who called me to see if I am available for next year, but we are still at a very early stage of contact with each other.”
For de Angelis, it would seem he has yet to fully weigh the possibilities of riding for these teams next year, and with what he calls “some very important Superbike offers.” He concluded by hinting that deals could be struck, or close to finalization by next week, with a possible announcement occuring at the Portugese GP in Estoril, which starts October 4th.
