Hi, was wondering if anyone else has suffered a problem like mine I have a RSV_R FACTORY on a 53 plate. my Meta alarm decided to pack up and shut the bike down and i could'nt get it to go again,so took it to garage and they had to take alarm off, bike is running but they say the alarm has fried the Imboaliser control unit and need to get new one plus new keys and barrel is this right? funny thing is take the key out of the bike which is switched off and u can still start the bike!!!!! wondered if anyone else suffered, what they did about it. and where i can get good second hand or aftermarket parts as Aprilia prices are way to expensive.many thanks .

yep sounds like the immobilisor is on the blink - you'll need new keys I believe as the imob ecu and key are matched but I don't think you have to replace the ignition barrel. The alternate is to just bypass the imob.

Cheers for that Deacs so i could just bypass the immobiliser and the bike would still just switch on and off as normal? and run as normal but i have no immobiliser when parked up?

Your dealer is not telling the truth at least not in full.

Firstly the immobilisor may be bypassed and not faulty if the alarm fitter knew how or by a previous owner, and it may be fixable if it is faulty (bad solder joints)

Secondly the antenna is generic and not matched to the immobilisor so it's fine if it is not physically faulty, and third any set of keys can be programmed to any immobilisor including a second hand one if you have the master programming key (which a dealer should) If it's a brand new ecu then it can be programmed without a master key as it will be blank and default to learn mode.

If it were me i would have a go at repairing the ecu first, it won't cost you anything but time. They are well known sufferin dry joints internally.

Just fyi the ignition barrel is in effect just an electrical switch for the power and the steering lock. There is an antenna on the side of the barrel (seperate part) which picks up the chip in the key and enables the start sequence.

So your bike starting without a key has nothing whatsoever to do with the ignition barrel or the keys.
