Hi!

I'm 6 foot 4 inches talll ( 1.93 meter). I have trouble in getting my lower legs in the bike the way the designes ment it, my knees are simply too high to fit in the recesses of the tank.
I am in the process of designing a pair of footrests to give me some more room. It'll be a pair of stainless steel pegs that 'll give me 1 inch (2.5 cm) more.
My job is designing mechanical stuff, I'll use high-grade 3 mm stainless steel, use a professional sheetmetal shop to do the laser cutting and bending needed, as well as a professional TIG welder for the joining of the parts. All to get the hi-tech look I like.

I could show you design in 3D CAD, photo's of the proto's after they've been manufactured.
Any one out there who might be interested? I could make a batch of these after the first prototype proves to be OK.
Depending on the batch-size I'd hope to get the price down to 40 to 50 Euro / pair.
 
I would be interested :), im also 1.91m
(but onestly the more you ride the more it suits you, sometimes its not the bike fault :D)

How about making them adjustable and make the heelguard to relocate the rear brake cylinder? Would solve a lot of problems at once.

As a matter of fact: I mounted the first pair of them on my bike last week! They have not had their surface finish yet, but I think evenn with the they look very well.
It's been very cold in Holland, lots of snow, salt on the roads all the time so I havn't ridden my bike yet with the new pegs on.
I'm placing a few pics in my garage for your reference.
In my opinion, the advantages of these pegs:

1 more legroom
These rests give 2.5 cm ( 1 inch) of extra room, which is approximately the maximum practical value if you keep in mind that the standard exhaust is below your right foot.

2 more grip
I Never liked the original pegs, they were too smooth to me. Especially in the rain or with a bit of dirt under the boots I found my boot slipping off the pegs constantly. I did some trail riding in the past and nevr experienced this problem with my montesa, so I designed my new pegs "dirtbike style". the grip I get from my new pegs is very good, no more boots slipping away!

3 Looks great
They are sleek, they look a lot more aggressive than the originals

Pro and con in one:
The new ones are stiffer so they bulge less under load but they are 30 grams heavier...

The grips should be a little slippery so you can move your boot fast just by sliding it and you dont need to raise your foot. I think that the way you make it is a bit too much.

I do agree that 98-00 pegs are to slippery, but 01+ are just right :)
 
Please look at pics 2907 and 2908 in "my garage", (if you hover your pointer over the thumbnails the filename will appear)

These pictures were made with the camera on a tripod from the exact same angle, parallel to the pegs. One of the pics also shows a ruler that is in the same angle as your lower leg would be. It shows the new rest gives you about 2.5 to 3 cm more lower leg room.

I would call the new position lower and slighlty more to the rear.
 
I dont want to be a pain in the *** :), but lowering the pegs will reduce the clearance when lean over.
Usualy to get more space the pegs move back and maybe a bit up. Since its not all about how much leg room you have but also at what angle the legs grip your tank.

Just suggestions, I do like what you are doing.
 
I couldn't agree with you more.
I'm aware that lowering will reduce clearance. But with my length, the alternative is to not have my knees in the recess of the tank because I'm too tall. It not only looks stupid cos I sit with my knees wide but it also gives me a lot less contact with the bike. Especially in the corners I want the outside leg in the recess of the tank.
The new pegs give me just enough room to comfortably do that.
I optimized the design to be a sleek as possible at the ends of the pegs to give as much clearance as possible, the hight at the tip of the peg is now about 7 mm. And btw, they can still flip up like the originals do.
I hope the weather will soon improve so I can have a test drive try with the new setup.
 
She'll grind sooner, cos the pegs are a bit lower. But hey, thats what you get if you adjust for legs that are too tall to fit the bike.
 
Im also quite tall so have the same problem(well 2cm shorter than you :D) and the best thing is to move them just back, not down. You will get enought leg room and stay with the same height.

Just curious, if you made custom wheels yourself why didnt you cut the centerbore 57.1mm so you didnt need hubrings?
