Alright folks crashed my mille last weekend absolutely gutted :bawling

I was on a road trip round wales on a road I've never been on before so wasn't going too fast and the front end tucked/collapsed on me. I was doing around 50-60mph at the time didnt even start the corner just as I was letting off the brakes/starting to tip it in I lost it. Ended up in a fence with a torn tricep, hole in my knee and a cracked bone in my foot as well as some nasty gravel rash where the stretch panels used to be. Not too bad really.

Been told today bike is Cat C, front wheel shattered, exhaust, swing arm, damage to all panels, tank, clocks, front bracket, clip ons, pegs etc etc.

The insurance said I could have the bike back for 40% of its value which is £1200 robbing bar stewards :angry

Was thinking of turning it into a track bike but think its not viable with all the damage what do you guys think? :dunno

not sure what year bike it is... but you could slowly turn it into a trackbike..not for this year but next..just trawl ebay for bargains

I bought mine back after a Cat C write off for £200! and it was a 20 mph clipping a car sideways, so damage was nothing.

Its a 2002 Mille. Gutted cos I just got it ready for summer. Newish tyres, new chain sprockets and front brake pads, new mot etc.

Yea 40% of its pre accident value seemed expensive to me. When did you buy your bike back senna who was the company?

Anyone else got experience in buying back a bike?

Bloody hell Rhys,

At least you are ok. I would turn it into a track bike, but not at £1200 get back onto your insurance for another offer. I have just bought a 2003 with 3500 miles that only needs fairings for £1000, just to give you an idea of what to pay to buy it back. Hope you get sorted and recover fast.

:sorry to hear about the crash .but your still here mate thats al that matters get on the mend and you can get a new bike!:dunno

Thanks for the ideas guys. Think a track bike is my only biking option at the moment. Insurance will be expensive next year as I think I've lost all my no claims bonus. Plus the family really dont want me to go back on the road (this is the second bike I've written off in 4 years).

Think I'll phone the insurance today and offer £700 maximum because the minimum I would need even to get it on track would be:
Front wheel - £100
Swing arm - £100
Fairings - £150
Right Clip on - £30
Rh foot peg - £20
Radiators - £100

The above is just a rough idea of what I think I might need and thats without pulling the bike apart. Not sure if the forks or frame are bent, its a possibility cos the front wheel shattered with the force of it hitting the fence.

start the search for a front wheel asap they are like gold dust..last one i listed on ebay sold within 10 mins for £165 and i listed it for £175 buy it now

Just phoned the insurance and they wouldn't budge on the 40% buy back value so I told them I wouldn't buy it back for that price. So I am now without a bike :bawling

On a plus point for you guys I may have some spares for sale soon.

PC3
Ohlins steering damper (just serviced with new mounting kit)
Rear seat and pegs
