The cause of the above is 2 reasons. Firstly the axle diameter is too large on the left hand side which reduces the amount of material on the left fork bottom. Secondly the pinch bolts are too large, Thus it is too easy to overtighten the pinch bolts resulting in too much stress in the fork bottom, this is why the crack appears in the thinnest section of the left fork bottom.
It is therefore critical that the pinch bolts are tightened up as recommended in the aprilia manual (the torque load is very light).
I would recommend using a good quality torque wrench designed for light loads such as these.
