Converting Mille to Ohlins

Hey, long time since I've posed on here.

Long story short, I fancy converting my 02 Mille to Ohlins. I'm not going to lie it's purely for bling factor.
Just looking to get a rough Idea of parts and outlay. I'm guessing the rear shock would be a straight swap?
As for the forks; I reckon we're talking- Forks- non radial, yokes (can head stock bearings be reused as mine are new?) Clip ons and is a replacement wheel required or just different spacers? As i'm writing this it's sounding expensive for a bit of bling...powder coating would be far cheaper!

Anyway any advice greatly appreciated.

Dave

Hi Dave,

You will need the yokes, clipons, if using axial forks your existing wheel will be okay, if using radial you will need 2.5mm spacers. Cost wise I have got a complete ohlins radial setup going up for sale and would be looking at £900 including calipers, or I have a complete showa radial setup for sale again including calipers for £450. Hope that helps

Speak to Griff at Aprilia Performance as he does a Showlins upgrade. That is your Showa's upgraded to look like Ohlins and uprated internals if you want that.

As a side note the oem Ohlins ain't all that performance wise. I prefer the Showa forks for the road personally.

Have a looky here. Showlins forks! - aprilia.me Forums

Griffs solution looks good , I like the showas on mine , seem great on the road and reliable , couple of folk I know have ohlins on bikes and the seals need changed far too often
A set of zx10 04 or gixxer k5 on might be a cheaper upgrade
As for the back shock , any ebay one at 300 quid odd will need serviced so that'll be another £100 ( ish )
Just get a nitron , built to your spec for £400 or so
Just my 10p's worth

zx10 '04 forks? - i have a pair of those buried in the back of my workshop.
hmmm, i feel another upgrade for my tuono coming on :)

Cheers for the info Mark but I'm not looking to go the radial route to be honest. Also after seeing spoonz link to Griffs anodised showas I'm awfully tempted to give this a try as I've always suspected the ohlins to be weaker in comparison on the road.

Thanks for the replies everyone. i reckon I could be going down the forgery route, after all the showas are pretty reliable and bomb proof so why not. Anyone you know tried the upgraded internals spoonz? I'm guessing we're just talking about different damper cartridges or shim stacks?

Depends how deep your pockets are as to how far you go, cartridges and valve kits are not cheap. I would get the advice of a suspension specialist like Ktech etc as to what would suit you and go from there. You could just buy shims and alter the oem stacks or get complete valves or whole cartridges. If the forks are apart anyway it's not that difficult to fit shims or valves etc.

The earlier non radial Showa's have a non serviceable sealed cartridge (in theory) but it's not the case if you know what your doing and once apart you can mod all you want. I think some of the track boys on aprilia.me have uprated internals so might be worth asking there.
