Continental Trip

I have only done one continental trip, about 20 yrs ago to the Bol D'or. Now in a few weeks i'm doing a long weekend and about 1,000 miles ( fri - mon ). I have European recovery which i thought would be essential. I will be travelling as light as possible but wondered if there are any words of wisdom.

Have. Good tyres, recent service (oil, filter, TB and CO ), recovery, credit card.
Need. Cheap waterproofs - suggestions please.

I have had my bike ( 02 Mille R ) 2 years and only done about 5,000 miles so i'm a little nervous about my bike and want reassurance all will be ok.
Route, Calais ferry, up to Amsterdam for a night ( leave it, its too easy ), up to Northern Holland for a night, over to Luxembourg for a night, then back home.

Should I not worry about my'n and worry about my mates MV F4 who has just had a MV Corse pipe and ECU fitted - not been too reliable before mods. Should add this is a sweet bike, persuaded him to buy carbon front mudguard, carbon hugger , carbon chainguard and personalised MV logo'd seat.

Other 2 are BMW old men bikes.

Tips, advice, horror stories all appreciated.

Phil

Check your EHIC card is up to date

Although not being enforced as far as I'm aware, breathalyser kit for France (and hi vis stuff?)

Look out for the speed cameras on the A16 around Dunkirk, in the central reservation, they are active & French plod do attempt to track you down back in the UK.

Check for Adam's apples before enjoying the delights of Amsterdam :devious

Have a great trip :thumbup

I'd say as long as your bike is prepared and there's nothing ongoing with it, it'll be alright.

Did the Cannonball Bike Run back in 2009 on my 748 which had been sat in my back garden for over a year. Booked it last minute. Finished work on Thursday, Paid for the trip when I got home, packed, jumped on bike and headed for Portsmouth.
Non-stop journey (apart from food and gas) from St Malo to Malaga and the only problem I had was the chain was knackered and kept trying to jump off the front sprocket.
So if a dodgy Ducati can do that then the good ol' Mille will have no problems.
