I am pretty new to these bikes and would appreciate the heads up on mod that you guys think are pre requisites to reliability.

For instance Clutch jet, Reg Rec?, Stator? etc etc, I've come across some of this stuff browsing but am unsure if all bikes effected or just some.

A list of mods for both gen1 and gen2 would be very useful to the forum and new members especially I think.

Cheers

Shaun

]Thanks for the pointers, Il get reading, performance upgrades are great, but of little use if the bike is unreliable, there's nothing more frustrating than your mates going out for a ride and you cant join the party due to a broken down bike, I just wanted to know what mods are required now Ive started the build!............. :) here's a taster

lol no not a course, I'm nuts I build em from scratch, and I make all the parts ie no bought bits, apart from the engine but I usually extensivly modify them parts also, but its nice to know in advance what pitfalls others have experienced with these engines, although from what I can find out most problems on these things seem to be assiciate with electrickery...........

Gen1's have weak cam shafts, The lobes are only pressed onto the shafts and high rpm downshifts/missed gears can be catastrophic.

Also the cam timing is so out of wack on some engines its hard to understand how they run.

For my 2 pennies worth I would either replace the cams You can use 2005 (Gen2) inlet cams or weld you exisitng ones or fit Kent ones.

Then dial them in properly and you can gain up to 8 bhp (ish) even on the small valve motor.

Has anyone tried the gen 2 camshafts? Defo need 2 sets of inlets? Are they the same profile? Sorry if this has been covered before..
