i recently fitted an aftermarket clutch lever to my 02 rsvr, i thought all was well but after about 5 minutes riding the clutch was slipping in every gear until quickly i was unable to get enough drive to pull away. i have not had a hint of slip prior to this.

i think the problem may have been that i wound the clutch push rod out more than it was originaly in an attempt to alter the biting point, could this have meant the clutch was not fully engaging?

in order to test the theory i tried screwing the push rod in again, it snapped off
Aprilia only sell the whole lever with push rod and nut at 90 quid a pop thats not an option.

my questions are, does my slipping theory sound possible and also has anyone snapped the push rod and crafted their own because i'm desperate to sort the problem so i cant ride to the world supers at end of the month.

cheers in advance
Rob

hi bud sounds like your theory is bang on to me ,are you any good with a tap an die set ? if it was me i would drill the screw out and rethread it . the screw on mine was very stiff but i managed to work it in and out with wd40 took ages a wee bit at a time and now its easy to move but allways use a good or new screwdriver that fits perfect so not to **** the head .

the more that wee screw is moved in the better your clutch will clear but you still need to have a bit of freeplay in the lever so its not pushing on the clutch pushrod bearing more than it should and wear it out faster .it must need some fine tunning to be right
im not one to look at manuals mate but could be woth taking the clutch casing off and see if the pushrod has some freeplay there and check the bearings not worn . a worn bearing might have as much as a few mm movement in it and no point trying to adjust that it will never be right. plan b mate rethread the lever screw, check the clutch bearing for wear ,and mind you must have a little freeplay in the lever ,give it a right good bleed up also . see how it goes bud good luck

Thanks for your help chaps, in case u end up making my own, can anyone advise roughly how far the push rod sticks out from the clutch lever?
