Clutch & the fear of god

Hi, I was speeking to my local bike garage, telling him proudly about my Tuono, when he started on about starting and clutch problems, he has put the fear of god in me know. Are they so delicate, I have looked through the threads on here but would like a straight opinion on what I should be prepared for!:eek

fD, whit one have yer got gen or 2? The starting thing is no more a problem than any other machine but yer need yer battery up to full power because of the sprag clutch device, it can get damaged if there isnae enough power to engage/disengage it, as fir clutch problems a haven't heard of any other than the seals at the leaver and the master cylinder are a bit weak and turn the fluid black. Ride yer machine mucker and deal wae whitever when yer need tae.

I also hear that they don't like been started with gas. Use the fast idle on the handlebars as this gives a steady throttle when starting limiting any stress on the sprag clutch. Am sure others will give their opinions to

that'll be a gen 1 mate.
gen 1 V2 = 2002-2005,
gen 2 V2 = 2006-2010,
gen 3 V4 = 2011 - date
gen 4 V4 = Interesting!

You've got a gen 1 mate. Think the bike garage is having a laff mate. As Aldo says, they need a good battery to start them, as for clutch probs, he's talking bollocks

Well I sell batteries as part of my business, so not a problem there, if anybody wants a good price for batts (mates rates) let me know what you need. I am not going to worry bout bike, I,ll just enjoy it, how good are these bikes, I love it.

An uprated battery is reccomended when replacing, don't know what the spec is myself but no doubt Charley Tuono, Keith B or some other techy type will pick up on this thread & put younstraight.

Standard battery is Yuasa YTX12BS ..... Quite a few, including me, use a YTX14BS .. Its ever so slightly taller than the standard one but still fits .... I made the mistake of swopping mine to A N Other brand ... (cheap) .. Only lasted 8 months .. Went back to Yuasa and, touch wood, have had no starting probs since ..... But keep that sucker charged ..... Other than that get out there n ride the damn thing and enjoy it :thumbup
