Just come back from a blast on my 2002 rsvr.and noticed when i nail it in 3rd or 4th the clutch slips then grips later up the rev range.is this simply new plates or could it be anything else..adjustment ect.bikes done 11500 miles.any info would be good.:dunno

You need to check the following

1 Has the clutch lever still got sufficient play in it so it doesnt engage the clutch prematurley ( 10mm of play is good)
2 have you changed Oil grade or viscosity?
3 check the seal in the Clutch resovoir that it hasnt collapsed .
4 Is the level in the resovoir not too full as this can cause slipping if it is a the full mark when cold.

Changing the clutch isn easy job but it sounds like either the springs are knackered or the Steels need roughing up a bit.

Dont worry M8 i changed my Clutch in about 20 minutes and believe me Im a feckwit mechanic ( ask the lads on the forum lol)

I've got exactly the same problem and it's going in on wednesday for new plates so I'll let you know how it goes. I've asked my mechanics and they're pretty confident it will sort it. Mines at 16k but has been mothered (in the past!).

oh just thought!its had pc fitted and had 38 dyno runs..have not rode it since..maybe thats caused it

Just seen your message apressmill. is it an easy job?

Listen If I can do it anyone can.

Procedure simlified as follows

Follow this.

http://www.geocities.com/sl_mille/clutch.html

Clutch plates can be bought for 49 pounds new and the steels for around 30.

When I changed the clutch on mine I bought the uprated Spring design which has stronger Spring force and is made from stainless.

The best option TBH is undo the cover take the stack out and check for blueing or warpage and spring length.

Easy Job.

Guys, this is a very simple job to complete on an RSV, I'm sure that as long as you have the correct tools you can carry out this yourselves.

Failing that, can you wait till Griff's around your area and get hime to replace your plates/steels for you?

Have a read of the attachment on my previous thread on clutch slip, I followed this proceedure when i did mine. I just roughed up the plates and its been fine since :thumbup clutch slip thread
