Clutch probs on 05 rsv

well the evil clutch slip has reared its ugly head.. again...

started off just in first gear under heavy acceleration
its now got to the point where whatever gear if i accelerate too heavy, by the time the revs reach about 5 or 6 thou it just slips, first and second gear are just pointless for me now... ive been riding for weeks at 3000rpm :puke

first thing i thought was the clutch fluid, replaced, bled, bled again, bled again, replaced and bled again... almost no difference

i have been intending to change the oil and filter recently anyway since its about time she got some fresh lube, done that and i definately used the correct type of oil, the same specification of oil thats been used since new, made a slight difference, first and second are still wasted beyond 4000rpm and after riding a while things gradually got back to the way it was before i changed the oil, no joy unfortunately

so today i finally decided to pull apart the clutch and check its condition, i took measurements of the stack and of the springs:

stack height roughly 47.5mm (aprilia quoted wear limit is 46.3mm)

spring length was 44mm (aprilia quoted wear limit is 44mm)

the plates appeared in fair condition, the far back (deepest in engine) steel plate looked like it had been exposed to the most abuse, slightly noticable heat patterns, not extreme or anything.. but the other steels had no heat evidence at all so im not sure if i should be worried about that :dunno

the clutch lever is stock, as are both the master and slave cylinders, i know quite a few people have had problems there

what do you guys think? should i be looking to get a new clutch kit? is there something i have completely missed?

one thing i would love to know the answer to... why does a set of 9 friction plates on a 06 or newer bike cost £32, and a set of 9 friction plates on an 04 or 05 bike cost £144?!?!

i havent exactly checked the slave cylinder but i dont know what i should be looking for, if you think its worth investigating then i will pull it out and see

thanks in advance for any help :thumbup

Get a sheet of wet n dry and rough your plates up a bit to take the sheen off. I had exactly the same problem with mine. Worked a treat, and the cheapest option, before buying new a plate stack :thumbup

YEP

Hard grade wet and dry using circular movements on the steels will be fine. Might be worthwhile getting some uprated springs aswell.

ps the slave will have nothing to do with the clutch slipping.

advice was spot on, thanks!

sorted the clutch slip (finally.. it took me forever get everything working again lol)

now have a minor case of clutch drag, but after ride it seems to be improving, the slave cylinder is so dodgy on these bikes
