mmm this bike is turning out to be a bit of a pain in the arse. i sort one thing and another thing breaks. joy!

lets start from the top.

i got the smoking sorted. went for a ride today and every time i hammered the throttle (not super hard) the clutch seemed to go a little spongy on the up changes, the first inch or so of travel felt weird and not right. i bleed the clutch through and it feels very slightly better. its still doing it though.

i am riding home playing with an R1 i met on the way back, i slam the throttle back and shoot past him, the bike reaches about 9.5K and it shoots to 10K and back to about 9.5K. i think its a small problem. i keep going and it does the same thing in the next two gears.

i assume the clutch is fooked but it might be something else, i have never had a hydro clutch before. maybe the M/C or the S/C or just the basket, a bearing etc.

any help greatly appreciated.

also will a falco clutch fit a 2000 RSV mille R???? same engine basically, just making sure.

cheers!

FFS you always think the worse lol

May need bleeding, tie back the lever over night so all the air gets out, see if its the same tomorrow

Make sure your reservoir isn't overfilled and that your lever isn't adjusted up too much.

When the oil expands due to the heat if it can't expand in the lines/reservoir it will operate the clutch, hence your slippage.

Have you got any vibrations on the lever or is that fine?

ill check it out today again to see if i get any vibrations, but from memory i dont think i do. there is the correct ammount of oil in there cause i measured it up when i changed the clutch diaphram.

i used 10W 40 could that be the problem?

no mate the 10w 40 will be fine as long as its not fully synthetic oil that youve used .......and tell me mate did it happen on the first ride out after the oil change??

keep the faith hombre!!! theres a lot of guys rootin for ya out there mate!!

let me know
Griff

To borrow the topic a bit

Griff, what kind of oil do you recomend?

I used fullsynth motul v300 15w50 and now switched so semy sinth motul 5100 15w50, since aprilia recomends semi... But im still not sure if this is the way to go :)

It was Fully Synth he put in as thats all he could get at the time...........i use 10/50 Fully synth in my 04 with No problems at all :dunno

fully synth? are ya sure dude, i thought it was semi?

er no fusebox, it happened before the oil change, on the way back from picking the bike up. i opened the throttle up on the home straight (int it great living in the country :)) and it slipped then.

i personally think it is to do with the lever system, if the clutch had gone the lever wouldn't go all soft and vague, would it? it seems fine at a stand still but when you ride it faster it goes all soft and no real feel. its when you hammer it it slips.

its beyond me, i haven't a clue!

just won some new plates on ebay, so i will replace them but if it aint that then further investigation is needed. maybe ill come visit ya griff and see if ya can diagnose the sit.

maybe clutch springs?

Right......ya didnt tell me that :roll

Thought it was fully synth you got, have a look on the bottle dude

i had a thorough look on the bottle before we put it in, it didn't say, but i assumed it was semi because it was £29 for 4 litres, not more like £45!

i thought i did tell ya that? TBH does it make a difference? it could still be the oil dude, maybe the oil that was in there before was also 10W 40???

Tbh
honest guys, yeah sometimes with somebrands of oil it does make a difference, silkolene fully synth did make my clutch slip and aprilia recommend agip semi aklthough a quality semi will do the job im sure!!

my advice is use a semi and be safe and save money! woohoo!!

sam lift the cover off your clutch again and take of the new diapragm...take off the clutch spring retaining bolts and slide another m6 washer underneath the exsisting washer , this will tell you if its the springs that are misbehaving or not.....if it slips after a good ride out again then the plates are spannered! the shims shouldb be blueing as well!

stay i touch dudde!
