clutch lever switch thingy

P

pieman

evening all. Just been cleaning and generally having a peek around and found a plug that isn't plugged into anything!!! The bike doesn't seem to be bothered and is running just fine so I've left it as is for the time being.

Question is what is it, and why is it unplugged????

It is a thin lead with 2 cables in it and . The lead comes out from next to the end of the clutch lever. It's the lower of the two thinner cables that come out of the clutch area. I have found what I think is it's female inside the left side bunch of wires. I'm guessing that it's something to do with the sidestand/clutch safety starting whatsit so does it mean that I could start it when I shouldn't be able to or..... ahhhhhhhhhhh hang on. Would it mean that I have to have it in neutral to start it instead of just pulling the clutch in!?!? I stalled it the other day (I'm new to twins, it happens) and couldn't restart until I pulled over and flicked it into neutral. Wondered why pulling the clutch in didn't allow me to quickly restart and carry on!!!!!! Is that it? and will reconnecting it help? Why would someone disconnect that, it's definitely been done on purpose there's no way it worked itself loose.

mines the same... just bought mine... stalled it... pulled clutch lever in & it wouldnt start... so had to snick it in neutral & then restart it... i knew there was something i was ment to do... i thought i would have to disconnect it to get it working... but maybe i have a re-connect it then... thanks for reminding me... i havnt stalled it since & forgot all about it... lol !! :thumbup

so im awaiting the same answer as you !! :biggrin

I've stalled it twice, both times when braking hard at relatively slow speed when people pull out on me. I guess I just wasn't fast enough with the clutch.

iv just looked & found my clutch switch was not pushed into the lever fully so the little push rod was constantly out... now connected properly the lever presses it in... didnt have a chance to start it... so im guessing now i need to pull clutch in when starting & that'll will work when stalled in 1st !!

glad I could help lol. If only someone could come and support my theory. Let me know how you get on with that.

well... mine acts exactly the same... lol... even with side stand up or down... & lever in or out... so wether my switch is buggered or if the wires need joining so it acts as a loop... but not im not quite sure !?

Haynes say it stops you trying to start it in gear when the side stand is up !?

damn confusing Italian leccys!!! come on someone please help!!!! does your bike have it connected or not, can you start the bike with the bike in gear- clutch in, stand up? What does this switch do and should it be connected or not, and why??

Griff's reply on the other rsv forum to the same question.....
plug it in dude!
you wont be able to start the bike in gear....not essentail but none the less a pain in the hoop if you get stuck in the middle of a junction or sommat!!
