Clutch Lever Replacement Problem

Hi All,

Recently bought some new levers for my T, and brake one is fine, but the clutch side, i can't get the little brass coloured pin out of the dowel to swap it over to the new lever.

Any ideas or does anyone have any spare dowels & pins i could have/purchase?

Cheers
Rob

Hiya,

Mine doesn't have an allen key screw, the brass pin the goes through the dowel has a flathead screwdriver end.

If it does have an allen key somewhere i can't see it.

Cheers
Rob

Turn the lever upside down and look closely at the centre of the dowel. There is a tiny allen grub screw in there. You have to loosen that first before the pin will unscrew.
As Garry said,be careful, its easy to **** up,as the screws are often stuck in with locking agent. The only place I know where you can buy spare pin kits is AF1 in the U.S.Costs around £50 with the postage!!!

Sometimes the Allen grub screw is lock tightened in, if so, use the tip of a decent soldering iron on it for a few minutes.

Don't worry...we've all been through this ****....it's like a right of passage to Aprilia ownership...
Just wait until you have to bleed the *******...

Thanks for that guy's will have a look tonight.

Brake caliper strip down and clean is on the agenda for the winter period so that'll be fun. Already tackled the rear one which was a pain in ***.

Cheers.

Nope can't get it out. Luckily i work in a bike dealer, so gave the lever to the workshop guys today.

Hopefully have it sorted by tomorrow.

Alright, so it can't be taken out, the little Allen screw is welded in there, and the other bit that screws in, can't be removed. It's all rock solid.

So looks like a new pin & dowel or keep an odd matching pair of levers.

The only way it can be taken out is for it to be drilled out.

But i might be able to get a spare for not a lot of money if I'm lucky...

Don't need to keep the old lever, but need to use the dowel and pin on the new lever.

I had same issue when I did mine, I gave griff a ring at Aprilia Performance and he had a spare dowel and pin lying about, only cost me about a fiver. worth giving him a ring.

God bless this forum.

Just spent an hour cursing in the garage nearly rounding off the head to the dowel to find the answer. Allen screw removed & job done in less than 2 minutes.

For a minute then I thought I'd be sending my CHINESE bargain levers back having to stick with the standard jobbies!
